    Suggest a budget MB/CPU for BF2

For Battlefield 2. My friend's 1.7 P4 isn't cutting it and he doesn't have a lot of cash for an upgrade. He needs at least 3 (maybe 4) DDR slots, ATA connections for his hard drive, and an 8X AGP slot.

Would the AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton 266MHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket A Processor Here
and this motherboard do the trick?

I would rather go Athlon 64 2800+ or 3200+socket 754 for an extra $$$ and these motherboards if he has an AGP card.

He wants to spend as little as possible. Are the Sempron chips ok for BF2? What speed?

Sempron are NOT gaming chips. He can get a 3200+ Venice, mobo and a gig of ram for £200-300

I agree with Athlon 64. I'd also try to pick a mb with a SATA controller (in addition to your required PATA). SATA doesn't seem to make much difference in the mb price and will be very useful if you need to add storage later. Then you can get a SATA drive that you can move to another mb later (they will probably stop putting PATA controllers on most mb's soon).
