Stupid Question

First off I want to say nice forums here. I have a question about hosting a server thats not dedicated. When the game first came out I was able to host a game and have my friends join my ip and goof around. But now it seems I cannot do this. Is there a way to change this? Or bypass it? Thanks in advance.

By the way I did do a search for this question but there was no updated answers.

You should still be able to host a server to goof around on. I do that for my friends all of the time to practice stuff.

Are you all running v1.03?

Do you have all of the proper ports forwarded?

Thanks for the quick response. To be fair I do not have the latest 1.03. Did they allow this for the patch? I did have all the ports forwarded and all information needed to join my ip such as when the game first came out. But whenever I gave them the info and they tried to join my IP it said it could not find the server. Please keep in mind we are not on a lan network. Im trying to get people from other parts of the country to join my IP.

v1.03 works absolutely fine for hosting private servers for you and your friends using the 'CREATE LOCAL' option in BF2 or even by using the standalone BF2 server.

BUT MAKE SURE YOU'RE ALL USING THE SAME VERSION

Can they ping you? or traceroute you? (sometimes there is a bad server in between somewhere)

Are you sure you gave them the right WAN IP?
goto http://www.whatismyip.com to found out.

Hopefully your ISP hasn't blocked certain ports from their end. You may have to contact them and ask if you feel that nothing else on your end has changed.

Well we havent tried since v1.03 however even when THEY made a server (im talking 5 people here each trying to make their own and all trying to connect) we have not been able to.

Well, you can PM me your IP and I can try connecting and see what the problem is.

I still have a machine running v1.02 if you haven't patched to v1.03 yet.

Something sure sounds weird though.

Are you all living in private residences on private ISPs or are you on military bases/university campuses??

I wont be able to send you my IP until late tonight as I have a 12 hour work shift right now however I will once Im home.

On a side note we all live in private houses not military bases or college dorms. Weird isnt it. Its driving us all mad actually.

It's driving ME mad trying to think about what the problem might be...

Anyway, just try PMing me later and hopefully I'll be around when you're off work and not off playing BF2 (there is a HIGH chance of the latter though )
