For you with split partitions that are having problems with 1.03 installation

If your C drive is small and you have room on your "game drive", follow these instructions:

I uninstalled the game (kept profiles etc), installed from CD again, then put the patch in my X: drive (games disk) and ran command prompt, then this:
    > X:
    > cd \
    > set TEMP=X:\
    > set TMP=X:\
    > bf2_patch_103.exe

This (Simple) method may leave some unk in X: root folder. If you wish, you can set TEMP/TMP to some other temporary directory on your drive. You can create X:\temp. Then DELETE Temp if you don't need it on your game drive.

This worked fine and I'm going to check out the new version :) There were files in X:\Temp during patching, so it seems that this is a propper method to do it

    N O T E:
Maybe you wouldn't have to uninstall 1.02. Someone could maybe help finetune the install process.

Moderators, sticky this one please and delete "Thanks this worked" and stupid posts like that. Let's keep the thread clean and just allow for reports of variations in install process.

FYI: I ran the update on top of 1.02 using the suggested way to copy-mid way and that didn-t work - blank screen. I did use the patch.exe <folder> option rather than copy into BF2 folder though.

EDIT: according to tatsit, you don't have to reinstall. You can apply on top of 1.02

EDIT: Removed the extra step of creating directories per Billen's advice. I guess it would be sipmler, if not cleaner.

OMFG i cant believe this, its not working i did exactly what you said and it extracted like 500MB to my temp folder and not C:/ this time but sure as hell the installer wont let me it keeps bugging me with the 1600MB on C:/ needed.

Cool! It worked. No need to reinstall game though

Try it again. Before he posted it, i tried this method, but it failed. Then i tried it again, and its successful. I think its most probably because you have to be in the x: drive in cmd before typing the set temp/tmp command.

I already have the TMP variables set the old fashioned way; in windows variables. No go for me.

The X:\ drive is only for example. For mine, i have to change it to W:\ drive. So all you have to do is to edit it to whatever drive you want to unpack the installation file to :)

I assumed people are not that dumb :)
I'm telling you, this has to work. At least with Win XP.

Didnt work, it extracts to my D:/temp folder but still the patch moans about not enough space.

Actually this advice is completely useless if you have already changed your TMP and TEMP variables via windows system properties.

Sorry man. I assumed you will figure that you need a Temp directory on your (game) drive.
I addded the "md" to create the directory in the instructions.

It doesn't matter. The command prompt will override the environment for the running process.

Do you have enough to extract the patch too? You would need about 2G tops space for this.

kamenjar : I think you fail to see the point, if you have already rerouted the TMP/TEMP variables via your system settings, doing the same in a CMD window is a waste of time.

Monitoring the Setup.exe process also shows that it checks for space on %systemdrive%, no matter what your variables are set to, and no matter what way you chose to set them.
