So, let's cut to brass tacks. Yes, this is a retail copy. No, it's not pirated. Yes, you're going to have to take my word for it. No, I'm not going to post the code to 'prove' myself. Right, with that out of the way.... BF2 was previously installed, patched up to 1.2 and working fine. I even went out and doubled my RAM for this game and things became better then fine...aside for the fact that I sucked, had to learn a new FPS from scratch and was getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis. That's par for the course though. Then some system instabilities crept in from still I have no idea where (Yes, I scanned, swept and purged with various shield programs, didn't find anything) and one symptom was BF2 just dropping to the desktop or even restarting the system entire at any time. In the server browser, during load-up, in a game, loading a game, whenever. So I thought a re-install would be called for. That and with 1.30 coming out why not? Now I can't reinstall. Every attempt to do so results in error messages as follows: MD5error: X:\games\ea games\battlefield2\mods\bf2\commen_client.zip Retry? If no is chosen it skips to the next and finds a similar problem; the installation has problems like this for nearly every single client zip to be installed. I've tried everything I can think of; uninstalling, purging my registry about the only thing I havn't done is purge my profiles in the 'My Doctuments' folder on the C Drive. So, does anyone have any idea what this error is? Is is software? Is my DVD corrupt(It's less than a month old) would a reinstallation of the system entire help? Any thoughts? L.White

an md5 error is indicative of (somehow) modified/corrupted file(s) ... why you'd be getting it during install is beyond me, however...Originally posted by Lady-WhiteSo, let's cut to brass tacks. YES, purge your bf2 profile stuff in My Documents -- after you back it up for safe-keeping (all your lovely custom controls settings are in there x_x). things may be set erroneously and that could contribute to your instabilities in-game, though it won't help you a bit with getting a clean install in AFAIK...
+ clear out any trace of bf2 from your HDDs. that'd be
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp\
and
C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ *or wherever your bf2 installdir is*
+ re-download your 1.03 patch if it doesn't match the sfv file posted here: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showt...406#post416406 , it may be messed, who knows.
+ removing your bf2 registry entries is unlikely to help... but feel free to do so.
+ defragment whatever Partition your BF2 install is on/going to be on. run checkdisk and all the standard windows goodies
+ disable any antivirus/antispyware,etc services e.g. realtime scanning and so on...
i can't think of much else, and what came to mind is just general troubleshooting... maybe give the dvd a once-over with some kleenex? :/
good luck...

Re: Post-Reinstallation Errors
Welcome to the wonderful world of Battlefield 2. The original game was only mildly flawed, so they patched it. This patch made things worse. So they patched it again, and made it even more unstable. Finally they release a patch to resolve all the issues but it seems like they only worked on Wake Island and totally neglected the bug issues. Now this current patch is worse than the original, 1.01, and 1.02 combined. I wish I had never bought the game.
