Commander arty kills do not show up on the roster window but still COUNTS as kills. I just tried to get my veteran engineer badge by killing 20 enemies as commander and it did award me for it.

Again, it doesnt show up on screen but it still counts.

okay i have checked this out three times ,as i play commander alot.for some reason your arty kills dont register when you are playing but if you go into your BFHQ (after you have given enough time) you will see your kills there.when i play commander i dont run around i devote my time to the troops. just got done playing about an hour ago.played for 1.5 hours.got 57 arty kills. they are not showing up in game but they are showing up in the BFHQ.

I tihkn commanders gained. Now they can artil with impunity, much to my displeasure. But it would seem the splash damage was reduced because despite seeing twice as many arty strikes, I only died in about 1/8th of them.
