1.03 patch made my cd-key invalid

WTF??? I have a legit copy of the game. Sole owner. Bought it brand new. I update and log on tonight and bammmm cd-key is invalid. Can anybody tell me what is going on?

Try going into regedit and re-entering your CD-key there.

Yeah sure:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
ELECTRONIC ARTS
BATTLEFIELD 2

Now I can't remember the exact file but you can see it on the right, it will have a string like:
462D64D592F473K64

Or something similar so you just whipe the value and re-enter your KEY.

I have exactly the same problem. When I go to the path you mentioned I have four files.

(Default) - no data
InstallDir - my install directory
Language - English
Local - en_US

Which one of these am I supposed to change?

I presume that you have installed your patch manually. (I did the same thing and got the same error message).

Download this file: http://www.ereptor.dk/files/bf2/BF2CDKeyCheck.exe
Put it in your BF2 root directory and open it. Now see if you can play :)

The BF2CDKeyCheck file is taken from the 1.0.3 patch. If you install your patch manually, it won't open this file, and thats why many gets the "CD-Key not valid" message.

Mate, if this works I am gonna love you till the end f the world :) Seriously though: yesterday I spent 1 hour trying to find a DL mirror that works, then I started to download with an astonishing speed of 15 kb/sec (it said about 4 hours left to go). I had to go shopping (you know, the wife wanted..), came back to see the DL speed dropping to 7,5 (guess what, still 4 hrs to go), spent one more hour searching for a mirror, after about 10 attempts I found one here and got the patch with 100kb/sec in 30 minutes. Tried to install - 'patching failed'. Did a manual install, went into the game, 'Invalid CD key'. Uninstalled the game, installed it and the patch - no luck.

Now, I am 29, have a wife, a job and consider myself to be a fairly well educated person. I have played many games and downloaded patches for them, but I have never ever experienced something like this. After 5 hours of playing with the patch yesterday I was so ....errr....upset that my vocabulary narrowed down to a couple of very basic words, which I do not dare to use here.

Oh well, I feel a bit calmer now...

I didn't manually install and this did not correct the problem. I still get "Your CD-Key is not valid" everytime I try to join a server!!

in bfv and i think bf42, there was a program where you can edit your cd key. it was in the battlefield folder under e_reg i think. something like that. you open it up and it lets you change your cd key. i think bf2 may have the same thing not sure

i think u downloaded fake bf2 update.
Some hackers might have released fake bf2 patch with same mb and same instal options.
And when u try to instal and instal it takes your cd key. Meybe thats it.

Some update mistake.

I just reinstalled everything and I still have the same problem. ARRRGHHH!

I downloaded my patch from EA so it should be ok.

There's also a thread in Client Support on this, also explains the BF2CDKEY thing and how to get it from the patch and run it if you worry about downloadning from 3rd party sources.
