invalid cd key since patch

ok, i DL'd 1.03, installed it, didnt work. CTD when i click multiplayer

clicked uninstall, chose modifiy, reinstall bf2, it just gives me a bar and then 2 new shortcuts,
did the patch again works, basically. when i choose to connect to a multiplayer server i get a your cd key is invalid message.

anyone know how to fix it without totally reinstalling, which i really don't wanna do?


system:
amd64 3000+
geforce 6800LE (16pipes) 78.01s
gig ram, running at ddr333 despite being advertised ddr400, it ****s my system if i force it.

According to EA if you go into your BF2 folder, click on support, there is an a icon for cd key registration, you click this and re-enter your cd key. Now I have done this several times, and even have reinstalled everything from scratch with no luck what so ever. I am about ready to melt my CD’s and send them back to :shoot: EA with a big fat go get screwed letter. :cussing:

Did you install the game and play using the same windows account? according to the inquirer.net it is a cd-key encryption issue.

Hi, this problem happens to me too . I've tried to put my CD key on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Electronic Arts -> EA games-> Battlefield 2-> ergc

There's a very laaaaarge strange number, instead those odd numbers writte there your CD key (all capital letters and without the - ).

I didn't check it yet, but I hope it will work

Had this problem today. All i did to fix it was running the Battlefield 2_code.exe file from the SUPPORT folder from your BF2 folder ie.E:\Games\Battlefield 2\Support\Battlefield 2_code.exe then reapplying the patch. If that dosen't work try d/ling the patch again.

Tried changing the serial key from (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Electronic Arts -> EA games-> Battlefield 2-> ergc) but it didn't seem to work.

I've tried the dam bf2code.exe and even the bfcode.rar and still got the same dam error message. WTF I'M BOUT TO USE THE CD'S FOR TARGET PRACTICE WITH MY 92FS AND I'LL EVEN USE MY HOLLOW POINTS....F*&K

I completely reinstalled 3 times; bf2-> 1.03->invalid ckey->punch hole in wall...

I have the same problem with an invalid CD key and I tried looking up my regedit and I cannot find that file you specified or any file related with my keycode in it - Now this ****es me off a slight bit considering I'm at a friends place and my manual is far away back in my flat and I'm unable to recover it untill saturday!

Is there anywhere on my PC that keycode might be found or any other way to get this dumb **** to work? Was looking forward to three new weapon unlocks - Instead i got the finger!

Update: The Keycode had disappeared from my PC - My friend got me one I could use and I can now play, but no matter how many times I install the 1.03 patch ( And it says patch complete ) i just seem to have that old old old version and can only play on a few EA France/DE servers - Then I turned "Same version Only" off on the filters and all the usual servers showed up in red letters :cry:

Every Patch EA has released I had to reinstall the game :/

Here is what I found from other forums that causes that error:

AFTER RELEASING a patch for Battlefield 2 earlier today, EA is now likely having a nice time cataloguing problems people seem to have with it.
Thanks to a couple of responses from readers this morning we've found a distinct problem with the latest patch for Battlefield 2. It looks like the 1.03 patch encrypts the CD-key value in the windows registry. Most likely this is done to avoid the theft of CD-keys by malicious software while you're playing online. It's a clever move.

Unfortunately, it looks like this encryption of the CD-key is specific to the Windows User Account that was used to install the patch. If any other Windows user attempts to play the game on the same machine they are given a message saying the key is invalid.

So far we haven't been able to contact EA for comment. Thanks to Breen Oullette for his detailed description of what seems to have gone wrong on his machines.
