My problem is different first of all it takes like 5 minutes to load up BF2(blank blue screen during this) then once i get in i click login and then he takes a bit....then it says failed to connect to server, check your network connections........no f'n clue...please help

sorry bud but i cannot even get to number five on your list, it wont finish installing and the patch.exe always crashes.


i was running fine on v1.02 and after dloading the patch i tried patching over v1.02, the inevitable patch crash happened so i uninstalled , reinstalled and tried fast patching straight to v1.03 this also ended in the same way as the others.

so now i have dloaded the patch atleast 4 times not from almost all the download partners and all i keep getting is "RTP executable" has failed (crashed) and will need to close. this happens everytime i try and patch and i cannot progress to "patch successfull" ........... any ideas???:cry:

EDIT: Also i have 90Gb free on my HD so its not that, and i keep the original destination for the game so i cannot fathom what is up with the patch.

Exact SAME thing is happening to me. I have no idea what is going on.

Hey, I downloaded the patch off fileplanet (179,789,735 bytes) and it begins fine, but near the end when it should finish, it stops and says that I do not have enough room on my harddrive, which leads me to believe that its trying to install on my full C drive. I've installed BF2 on my D drive, and the 1.02 patches installed just fine when they were released, but why doesnt this new patch automatically install in the same foldier as the other BF2 files? How can I get it to install on my D drive?

well after awhile now i fixed my problem


i uninstalled saving the profiles,

then after i reinstalled, i didnt dl any of the patches execpt for 1.03 and it is working fine now

so your saying delete the profiles....well that make you lose them all or will you have them if you just enter them in the log in

I can't seem to install 1.03 also. Problem is, i have a windows partition which is 6 gigs and XP and only XP alone is installed and has left me only with 1.25 gigs left. So, when I try to install the patch, it tells me I don't have enough space because it thinks my BF2 folder is in there, even though it's installed in my other 160gb partition. Anyone know how to get around this?

For CD Key Invalid Error when patching try this info by Guru
"Gunny Highway"......

The CD-key is in fact encrypted now in the registry, which is a good thing as cd-key steeling malware will not be able to use it. .

If you get the invalid cd key after patching try this.

start the patchinstaller.
after selecting language, press next, and leave it at that.
go into run menu in start menu, type %TEMP% click OK.
Window opens up, press F3 and do a search for BF2CDKeyCheck.exe and run the .exe
now close the patchinstaller and start the game.

Maybe you have to copy the bf2 patch files from the temp dir to the battlefield 2 folder not sure, I didn't try this myself.

If this works for you plz reply to help others.

IMHO It's the way you installed the game ...so follow these instructions on "installing the BF2 game" to keep you straight http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18709

You need put up your own "new" post in this part of the forum with your "full" PC sys specs plz as it may be a hardware issue or the way you have your pc set up.

I hate EA and Dice. I have a fail message to and I cant play bf2 since I try to install that stupid patch

IMHO it is not the makers of the patch but the way peeps use there PC's and there set up.
