VOIP is between squad members for squad and leader can talk to commander and squad members.

I'd like to see a function to talk to other squad leaders myself.

how do you get VOIP to work in BF2? Do you need to bind a "push to talk" key?

For that matter, is there anyway to bind a team message, such as "USE TV MISSILES GUNNER!!" - that would be quite handy

I would like to see a "talk to those around you" option.

It is kind of annoying when you are in a vehicle and you can't talk to your gunner. . . or if you get separated from your sqaud, they are all the way across the map and you can talk to them, but you can't tell the guy right next to you that he is running at a pile of C4.

As was said, when you use VOIP as a squad member, you talk to only those in your squad. If you have TS setup as voice-activated, then both your squad mates and people in TS will hear you. If you were to setup a push-to-talk key in TS seperate from the VOIP P2T key, then you can target your audience.

B to talk to your squad mates.
V to speak to commander (if you're a squad leader only).

If you go into your BF2 folder there should be a VOIP setup.exe, use that to set it up and keys are already in.
              B to talk to squad
              V to talk to commander
