Do you play competitively? If so, then it is likely that you're going to be stuck between a rock and a hardplace. You'll need 1.2 to compete, but most ranked servers will go to 1.3.

If you have already installed the 1.3 patch, its too late. Next time you have a competition, you will have to completely uninstall BF2 and install up to version 1.2, and before you do that, you should come follow these directions.

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS
(If you don't follow them, you'll be hosed)

1-Go to your c:\program files\EA Games\ directory. If you do not use the that exact path, including the drive letter, the script will NOT work for you as is.

2-In your c:\program files\EA Games\ directory, right click/copy your Battlefield 2 directory

3-In the same directory, right click/paste. This will make a folder called "Copy of Battlefield 2", and will take a few minutes to finish

4-When it is finished, right click on it and choose rename. Rename this file from "Copy of Battlefield 2" to bf212
(note: This script will not work if you don't have a c:\program files\ea games\bf212 directory the first time you run it)

5-Download this program file by clicking here (Right click-save as) Place this file anywhere that is convenient for you, you will double click this file to switch versions.

You should now be able to switch easily between the versions. If you're not sure which version you are on, that's OK! Double click the bf2switcher.bat file, and it will announce which version it switches you to.

BEWARE!!!
Only double click this file one time. Starting two of these at a time is not good.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If you click this bat file repeatedly and fast, you probably deserve what happens, but you also deserve to know how to fix it.
Check your c:\program files\ea games directory. If you find your "Battlefield 2" folder is gone, there should be a bf212 and bf213 directory. If its there, simply rename one of the folders to Battlefield 2.

So I don't have to come back and edit it everywhere I post it when its released in the next couple days. And if I don't put it in there that it won't work if you've already installed 1.3, people will try and then harass me with urgent questions.

Easier this way, no?

I think its nice u making this post to help us switch between versions but I dont understand the usefulness- wont you HAVE to switch to 1.03 to play on ranked servers? I mean would they allow for 2 types of ranking systems for 2 different patches since 1.03 is so much different than patch 1.02?

i shouldn't matter what patch you have installed. from what i've read it will change automaticly to the version that the server is running

Well for example, if you play the 21st Century Warfare games, the 1.03 patch might not be compatable with the 21CW mod.

IMO, it would be easier just to bypass that batch file and create a shortcut to the unpatched version on your desktop. Then play either version depending on which shortcut you double-click.

Leagues and matches don't usually jump straight to a patch, and there will likely be a week or two of using 1.2 for matches and 1.3 for pubbing. So to answer Dwarfs question, this is so anyone who has a couple matches or scrims this week doesen't have to uninstall/reinstall every time they have that scrim or match.
