Just so you know, a new processor won't make you any better at the game.

I vote for the X2. Because there are no gaming applications that really need an FX55, and an X2 is far more practical for common computer usage.

I figured going dual core would be the way to go.

          Thanks.

            Dual Core= teh sh!t
Seriously, I just got one and I have never seen anything this fast, plus I can do an antivirus scan and antispyware while I play bf2. At at least 70fps.

As far as I can tell, because there are no games currently developed that make use of the dual core technology, you would be better off going with the Fx 55.
After a coupke of years, the software-gaming developers will make more use of it.
Even the benchmarks out there appear to show consistently that the dual core chips are not performing as well as the single core chips for gaming.

Give it a year or so and 64 bit software, dual core chips and Physics Chips will enable games that will be mind boggeling. Making BF2 look like Pac Man.

But like the other contributor pointed out, he runs anti virus checks in the background while he plays...so, I suppose if you want to say, play music, run Spy Bot, AdAware, and pretend to be working on a Word Document while playing, go for the dual core.

All I gotta say is that if you get a nvidia card, wait for the new 80.XX drivers, which should boost dual core performance conciderably.

Get the X2 - the FX55 is only marginally faster in current-gen games, and then X2 is a lot more futureproof.

What else do you use the computer for? Gaming only FX-55; video editing, cad, multitasking then go for the 4800 X2.

FX-55. No game uses double-threading technology now. In the future it might be different, but stick with an FX-55 for now.

I cant believe the X2 is winning the poll.
You're building a gaming machine, right?
So getting a dual core proc would be silly.

                          Get the FX-55.
Im either getting the 55 or the 57 for my next machine, depending on how rational I am at the time of purchase. If Ive got all my marbles Ill get the 55, but if I let pride get the best of me Ill waste the extra $200-300 for the 57 =P
The only way I can justify the 57 is by telling myself that it will make a difference when playing Oblivion (since that game is going to wreck everyones machines).

fx-57, its cheaper i blelive than the x2 and faster than both cards

^^^ What in gods name are you talking about?
First of all, the X2 4800 is about $200-300 cheaper than the FX-57.
Secondly, what "cards" are you talking about? Were talking about processors.
Finally, the question is X2 or FX-55. Only I mentioned the FX-57, and it was something of a joke.
