Whats wrong with my CD Drive!!

ok my brother was just playing bf2 and the cd drive worked fine. 2 hrs later I go on and the cd drive wont read anything, I put the disc in and close it then a green light flashes under near at a steady past blink blink blink blink blink blink blink it goes on for while and then stops. I try to play bf2 and it says there no disc. So I go to start, run, browse and try to find the D drive and its not there. So I then went to hardware manager and right clicked on the CD-Drive then I clicked properties and it says its running fine. should I go out and buy a new one??

First, did you try and see if it reads other discs?

Another thing you can do when it doesnt show in explorer is to remove the device in the device manager and restart to let winblows redetect the drive.

Make sure all cables are firmly attached.

If all that doesnt work the drive could be bad. If the drive reads other discs fine then the problem is with your BF2 disc.

Sounds like either a stuffed cable or a bad drive. How old is the drive?

And what Mutrino said, could be a bad BF2 disc, check the others. And remove it from the device manager as well.

I'm going to gander and say its the first since it isn't showing up in your My Computer section.

When I installed BF2 the first time I used my CD-RW drive it was only 3 months old & it fried it. Since then if there is a disk in the drive at boot up my BIOS wont recognize it, if empty at boot up, will recognize but wont read any disk place in it. Several others have reported similar probs.

Alcohol120% / Anti-blaxx and u dont need the disk but u cant do anything till you get ya drive working . Also if it turns out to be your drive try a cd / dvd rom cleaning diskbefore buying a new one .

the computer is probably about 4 years old, and I tried other discs and it wont read them either

I did what u told me to do and It was broken beciase it regonized the CD drive it just wasent reading, so I replaced it and its working great. Thnx for the help
