        Re: Phantom model

When I first saw this ghostly figure in BF2 he hovered over to me and whilst I reloaded my M16 he started to spread strawberry jam on my left buttock whilst singing "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" by New Kids On The Block...

Needless to say I was quite upset at the fact I had jam on my ass and that song stuck in my head for the rest of the round.

Hi my name is Gulf_War_Syndrome and I see phantom models... :)

I see these all the time. Usually they appear at a spawn point for just a fraction of a second. Both friendlies and enemies - you'll see their name tag and everything.

If you're really lucky (you've got high FPS) you'll see them fly through the air across the map and through the terrain, I guess over to their eventual (real) spawn position.

Once I was attacking a flag in an APC. I'd rolled up, saw an enemy standing there so layed into him with the cannon. He just stood there as the shells exploded on him for at least a second or two, then he disappeared. I then got C4'd by a real enemy - it really was one of those WTF moments!

Well actually you might want to rethink that. DICE isn't a fully independant software developer, otherwise you'd have a fully dedicated Master Server built and run by DICE.

The fact is the online portion was outsourced to EA and GameSpy. So in essense it is EA's fault.

DICE in this case is only the developer of the game and engine. EA's responsible for making it work online.

                  Dont believe me?
EPIC Games - Completely independant. Their Publisher Midway and Atari would be considered EA games in the relationship of EA/DICE. But the fact is their publisher is only funding publicity, they actually run their own Master Servers and stat servers.

DICE - Joint development with EA. EA gets the resposibility of making it work online. EA-GameSpy are running the Master Server and stats, and are in charge of developing the software to an extend.

                  Difference:

                  DICE/EA = Partnership
                  EPIC/Atari/Midway = Developer/Maintainer & Publisher.

Im guessing it a player in the game and when you join the server he is just like jumping around due to lag.
