    I change my mind... G3 = Good!

I had originally unlocked the G3 because I couldn't get a feel for the USA's three round burst fire mode. But shortly after getting the unlock I started getting use to the three-round stuff so the G3 went into the preverbial closet. Then my roommate was making the comment the other day that he really wanted a M1 Garand in this game. I started testing out different rifles and seeing which was the most Garandish... that's when I discovered teh G3's single shot mode.

I played all weekend and was racking up plenty of kills with this gun on Urban maps. The accuracy in single shot mode (which I had overlooked previously) was impressive. I was taking fully armored assault troops out in 2-3 shots over long-medium distance. At close range I still used the full auto but the single shot mode really makes it accurate. The damage is impressive as well, I'm sure few people felt good after coming away from a battle with me, even if they managed to kill me. The 20 round clip doesn't matter as much when using single shot, plenty of kills left in the clip when you can kill in a couple rounds.

The real trick I found is to change how I thought of the gun. Play like you are using a M1 Garand and you won't be let down.

Mm... I still think that it isn't as accurate as the M-16 or AK-101 on single shot, which makes you the loser in most long range duels... and at close range against an assault class with Mk. 203/GP 25 you're in a big disadvantage as they've got the one shot one kill edge.

I agree. High damage and excellent accuracy and .... a great sound :)
I do not need a grenade launcher so this is my No.1 assault weapon.

Lol, im I the only one here that doesent like it? I mean it has no n00b tube, ONLY 20 shots in a clip, you have to reload all the time...

(Theres gotta be atleast one in a thread that dissagrees)

I unlocked the G3 when i became corporal, and i tried to use it on single shot like you say, but i still think the default assault rifles are way more accurate than the G3. With the Ak101 on single shot at long range : point at enemy, click, and you get the hit indicator, that simple ... with the G3 you can point at an enemy all you want, the bullets seem to go elsewhere.

Re: I change my mind... G3 = Good!

I am about 2% from my next rank, meaning I get to unlock a third weapon.

I am trying to decide which I would like to use, and I keep falling back on which kit I use most.

                1) Anti-Tank
                2) Engineer
                3) Assault

Now, personally, I love the burst mode on the original assault rifle, and absolutely despise the noob cannon, M203 I think it's called. I'd rather enjoy the skilled kill than the nade kill. That's why sometimes I just don't pick my unlocked medic weapon, and use the US gun instead (short burst, but damn accurate). When I play as Chinese/MEC, I use the unlocked everytime.

The G3 would be a great addition to my arsenal, but since I normally play a squad leader as SpecOps, I normally never need anything but the G36C.

I guess what I am getting at, is to ask everyone's opinion on my third weapon choice: I'd rather the G3, but would I be using the kit more often? Which is better between the two, the anti-tank or the engineer unlock?

I'm really out to find which is better, any links for the amount of power each gives?

                Thanks

Re: I change my mind... G3 = Good!

I've said this countless times on other threads. I have the G3 unlocked and it's not that accurate. I've had lucky shots, but most of the time, semi-automatic fire on a target at long range, which would surely hit with an M16, won't hit with the G3. Minimum deviation values also support this:

                  G36C - 0.12
                  M4/QBZ-97 - 0.15
                  AKS-74U - 0.20
                  M16A2/L85A1 - 0.3
                  AK101/47 - 0.45
                  G3 - 0.5

Lower is better. These are values that you can acheive best with each rifle. If you want, I'll post the entire value table for comparision's sake. Couple the high deviation of the G3 with the recoil and your definition of "long range" becomes 100m at best, while I could quite literally snipe you back with a G36C from 300m.

I find the M16 and even the AKs to be more accurate than the G3. I've tried a few things, such as firing slower, compensate for any bullet drop (it exists in the M95, so who knows?), different stances. The effects are always the same. The pattern is wide compared to the other rifles, even with a huge pacing between shots while proned. Test it out for yourself and compare the bullet hole pattern-circle's size with the other guns, you'll find it's much larger. Even when set in semi-automatic fire.

As for the question above -- it goes as follows.

AT - The DAO-12. It's not bad, I've had better days with it, but it's best in urban maps. Otherwise, you'll find yourself using the pistol more often. Still, considering the SMG's inaccuracy, it really just depends on your style, effective range doesn't drop by much.

Engineer - The Jackhammer. Well... wastes ammo pretty quickly. You'll have to do taps/double-taps to use it effectively, so I've heard. I tried it out and didn't really like it. 7 rounds waste rather quickly, especially in its automatic fire.

Assault - I've already mentioned my opinion on the G3, minus one thing. For CQB, it's pretty damned good. 20 rounds will fly quickly, but even with the 2+ damage difference from the AK-47, it's still pretty good.

The G3 has more to lose when compared to the AK-101. No tube, deviation is higher, recoil is also higher, less 10 rounds. But it's good for spraying bullets in a small area near you.

Between AT and Engy, I'd say AT. You can couple with long distance with the rockets, medium with the pistol and close with the shotgun. It's lethal at close ranges, has 5+ rounds than the Jackhammer, although the reload is slower and it's semi-automatic, not automatic.

I use the G3 more than any other weapon, it seems like now that I am so used to it, I cannot play as well with any other assault weapon. I already have the surpassed the corporal promotion but I have not selected a weapon yet, probably will be the G36.

I had no idea the L84A1 Air Rifle and the M16A2 had the same deviation. Nice look up. I already have the PKM, G36C, & the M95 and I really don't have any desire for the other unlocks so I'm torn between the G3 and anti-tank. I'll have to see if any of the weapons are changed in this patch before I make a decision.

Just hump them up, then they will kill themselfes and lose the 2 killing points PLUS 2 teamwork points.

I will definately go for G3 in any of my next ranks.

Minimal deviation values are only valid for the first shot, while prone. The problem with the L85A1 is that the next shots won't be so tight. Standard deviation (not minimal) with the L85A1 is 1.2 vs the other rifles' 1.

Now, my point with the G3 is that the first shot is already abysmal, so follow ups will only be worse. People can say whatever they want about the G3, it is not accurate. It really comes down to the definition of "long range". To me, long range is 350m+ combat. As far as I'm concerned, these people play only on Karkand and have no idea what's over 100m.

Oh! Also, I just looked at the table -- the L85A1 has 0.3 (2.5) deviation added per shot vs the other rifles, which have either 0.2 or 0.25 (2), except for the G3, which has 0.25 (2.5).

Thanks for the input. I've played with all the unlocked weapons in single player before, but I can't really compare to multiplayer/online, because quite frankly, if I can destroy a tank with the machine gun from a cobra in single player, but not in multiplayer, there is a problem. I find the weapons more accurate, more powerful in singleplayer.

So, I think I will be narrowing my choices down to either the G3 or DAO. I will wait for 1.03 to make the final decision.
