Earth 2160, nice graphics, horrible game

I've been a big fan of RTS' and the like for awhile, having really enjoyed the Empire Earth series and The Moon Project. After playing TMP i was looking forward to Earth 2160 which turns out to be one of the worst RTS i've ever played. This game ****es me off in so many ways and i feel i need to release some anger by posting here. If at least 1 person benefits from this rant, i'll feel better.
    Here goes.

    Pros:
1)beautiful graphics, explosions, lighting, textures, etc, etc. Requires hi-end system for all the eye candy.

2)New base building system is interesting and all 4 factions have different buildings.

3)Units can get in and out of vehicles and retain their experience.

    Cons:
    1)Lame music.

2)Laughably sad voice acting and dialog.(the same guy who did Farcry and Advanced Battlegrounds(aka. Chrome)).

3)Uninteresting story, possibly because of the voice acting.

4)Cannot play at an accelerated speed without using a code. Instead they have an "advance 1 minute in time" feature that has no business in an rts.

    5)Research tree is very unorganized.

6)Unit Build screen sucks ass, as you may have 4 or 5 units that look the same but with different weapons or armor, and mousing over the icon does not tell you which unit is which. Very poor interface.

7)While in the middle of an intense firefight, a popup window might show up pertaining to the mission or story, which leaves you unable to control your troops until you esc, esc, esc, esc, esc past all the dialog, meanwhile your guys are getting annihilated. And yes, you need to babysit them cause they are incredibly stupid. Have had an enemy roll right into the middle of my squad of 15 and kill 3 before my guys started shooting back.

    8)Pathfinding is horrible.

9)Although your units can gain experience as in The Moon Project, its basically useless because they will mostly be killed early in their existance for this game is unusually hard even on the easy level. A patch was released to fix this issue but i dont see any difference. And besides, your units dont seem to carry over from mission to mission. A few do but not all.

10)Units will be destroyed with no mention that they are even under attack. Have lost several harvesters this way and the only way i realized this was my resources were all at 0.

11)The game is basically dark but if you scroll over the Fog of War, It turns your screen into a very bright likeness of "Television Snow". Very hard on the eyes.

    12)no escort function.

13)If i try to send a group of infantry to a transporter by clicking on the transporter, they run in super super-slo motion. So i have to click the ground NEXT to the transporter and wait for them to arrive, and THEN click on the transporter. I shouldnt have to be concerned about this while battle wages on. I think the patch was supposed to fix this also, but again i see no change.

These are only the problems i can think of right now and i know i'm forgeting a few. I just hope whoever reads this realizes this game is not worth buying if you dont want the frustration that goes with it. Its too bad too cause i was really looking forward to this game.

Thank you, have a nice day.

Actually those graphics are very good for an RTS game... but i rather play somthing like AOE3, if any RTS.

I just say the best RTS game I played was Warzone 2100.
        I'll be avoiding this though

I agree that was one of the better ones. That game just seemed to get all the little things right. I loved being able to recycle my experience points into new units instead of being stuck with obsolete units. Earth 2160 kinda does this but its just not worth it. Did they make Warzone 2100 for the PC? If they did i should try to find it.

Thank you, have a nice day.

Warzone 2100 was on the PC first and that's the version I have, It far supercedes the console version.
I still have it but have some problem playing it on my current system but I think it is an XP compatability issue.

btw empire earth does rock, although i didn't buy ee2 due to lack of money at the time, then i just forgot about it.

Yeah i was just reading that 2100 has compatiblity issues with xp running sp1 but its ok with sp2, which is unfortunate because sp2 and myself dont play well together and i cant see me installing it for just one game. Oh well.

Yes Empire Earth was and still is a good game and i also have EE2 but i prefer the first one because i dont like the land being split up into parcels as in ee2. I dont like having limits to how many buildings i can put into each parcel. I basically use towers as my wall structures in ee1 and in ee2 you can only place 7 towers in each parcel. I prefer walls of airborne death protecting my peons. I also think the EE series has one of the better random skirmish designers out there too.

Thank you, have a nice day.
