    Re: asus x800xt pe problems

Hi and welcome to the boards popalazarou.

The problem with BF2 is that it is so dang demanding that it taxes even the highest end system to the point that it will reveal driver/hardware/software problems that never happened before.

I always recommend starting with an installation of motherboard chipset dirvers. This can solve about half of all problems. Next is to uninstall the video drivers and reboot into Safe Mode to use a program like www.DriverCleaner.net to remove all traces of all video drivers. This will allow your next install to be clean as a whistle. While we're on the subject of ATI, I have found the 5.9 drivers to be problematic so I have reinstalled the 5.8's; that might help you as well.

Next, I would go to the Creative website and download the latest beta version of the Audigy 2ZS drivers. These drivers have a fix for BF2 included. Since they are beta, I would install them over the current drivers as we have found that to be the best option for these drivers and BF2.

If problems continue, let us know.

ok ive tried the omega drivers and also the audigy drivers from station drivers ihave gone back as far as catalyst 5.2. If anything the problem seems worse. Has anyone else got a x800xt pe to work with this game. Any help greatly appreciated. BTW i also tried different resolutions as well

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers first?

        EDIT:
I know it is a new video card but I would check to make sure the fans is spinning. Your issue could be due to heat.

ok ive reinstalled the mobo chipset hyperions and then the graphic drivers. One thing i notice now, is that the cgraphic corruption lessens when i run at a lower resolution, but it is still there. If i play at the 1600x1200 resolution the corruption almost immediately starts and goes out of control in no time, it does seem more stable at lower resolutions. I hope i havent run completely out of ideas yet, any more help is greatly appreciated, thanks shamus.

            Re: asus x800xt pe problems

You're welcome amigo; if we keep trying, we will figure it out.

Here is a thought - try running the game without AA enabled in the game menu and make sure that AA is set to Application Preference in the ATI Control Panel.

With nice specs like yours, I am guessing you have adequate case cooling. The thing that gets me is that it runs fine for a few minutes then hits the fan. This sounds like a heat issue but not necessarily. For testing, can you take the side of your case off and aim a house fan in there just to cool it off some more and determine if you can game longer?

Oh yeah, one more thing - navigate to:

            C:\Documents and Settings\Shamus\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

...and delete all the files under that directory in order to load a fresh cache of game files for the fresh driver install. These files will be regenerated when you load another game.

ok, i have a gpu temp of 39 degrees c. I have an artic cooler on my x800xtpe and i have now taken the case side off (my poor fishies have floated to the top).I have turned off all fsaa and af now the game runs ok as before but some textures are corrupt on the buildings and things. It seems very playable but i dont understand why i get the corruption. I played the game for around 5 mins and it doesnt seem to get worse but the corruption is still there in the background graphics. I havent played it for an extended period yet

                Re: asus x800xt pe problems

To me, it is beginning to sound like a mixed bag of drivers. Perhaps some drivers from your previous video card remain on the HD? DriverCleaner will remove them or I can provide you with a way to manually remove all traces of video drivers. A free program called RegCleaner/RegSupreme will clean your Registry of old dirvers after the uninstall.

Another easy thing to do is to reinstall DirectX9.c now that you have updated your motherboard and video drivers.

And don't forget to delete the BF2\cache files before starting the next game.

This is worth a double post to get the thread bumped up.

popalazarou, you will need the Catalyst™ Software Suite 5.8 or higher to play BF2 on your card. I suspect a super clean install would do the trick for you. Check out the Release Notes from ATI:

Issues Resolved in Catalyst™ Software Suite 5.8

The following section provides a summary of the issues that have been resolved in the latest version of Catalyst™. These include:

                  * Battlefield 2: Geometry corruption or missing textures are no longer noticed when playing the game for an extended period of time under Windows XP with an ATI Radeon® X800 XT installed

ace!!!!!!! i was just about to jump in the brook. Ive done a full driver clean up and re install with driver cleaner pro using safe mode and i still had problems so at least i can try this new driver set. Do you think the 5.9's would be ok? i had these initially on my system. Thanks again shamus top stuff :)

since the X800XT is a Directx9 card please run it at that setting. There is ABSOLUTELY no point in going back to previous versions. :)

i dont know if dx is re installed as it seems to just check it and then exit the program. There doesnt seem to be an option to reinstall dx9c. Any tips would be helpful.thanks:)

                            Re: asus x800xt pe problems

In the dxdiag box, on the Display tab, verify that all DirectX features are turned on. If any are disabled, enable them and test.

Sometimes all that is needed is to click Disable to turn off Direct 3D, and then Enable it to trigger the 3D system to recall its proper settings from the dll cache.

It is possible that a critical DirectInput file is corrupted so you can pop in your Win XP CD and go Start/Run and enter

                            sfc /scannow

...hit enter to see if any missing or broken files are found. If they are found, Windows should replace them automatically.

                            EDIT
If you have access to another PC where you can switch parts back and forth for testing, now would be a good time to test a different card in that box and try that card in another box.
