Everybody who has bought one says it's an amazing difference and worth the price.

But..that could just be them trying to justify the money they just spent

I hope you listen to a lot of music then since you got the version that is most beneficial to those who listen to music than play games :p

ill prob buy an x-fi when it gets cheaper. but i dunno. im definately an audio enthusiast, i just hope that the improvment is significant to the point that it doesnt just improve sound for people with crappy setups, but rather makes mid/high end setups sound good as well. personally, the cmss crap that comes with my audigy 2 made my Sennheiser 595's sound like total ****.

You should definitely cancel the order for this sound card.
That is my opinion, and here is why:
The version you ordered only has 2MB of onboard ram, whereas the higher tier versions have the 64MB which is what would actually increase your gaming performance. Granted, your sound will be exceptional but if you're going to splurge on a sound card you may as well do it properly and embrace the future of PCI sound.

Yeah...if yuo are more of a gamer you should have got the Fatal1ty FPS...you got the cheapest one. It's still better than other sound cards, but not the best for gaming.

Ok, WOW, so many wrong statements are getting made in this thread it is sad. First, great move. It is the cheapest of the bunch and awesome. While the post above says you should get the 64 mb one, WRONG. NO game right now uses onboard sound memory which utilizes that 64 MB. Second, in the future when games do start using onboard sound memory, it will need More than 64 MB, along the lines of 128 at least. So ppl dishing out the dough to get those high end ones now are going to be screwed. Another, sry DP, but this card is for Gamers just as much as it is for music audiophiles. The amount of options you have to work with are awesome and it makes playing games much more intense and fun.

I recommend for music listening, turn on SVMM so your songs don't get distorted, turn the 24 bit crystalizer all the way up so you hear every instrument and it sounds much cleaner and crisp. If you want a lil bit more of 3d sounding music turn on CMSS-3D. For gaming turn on CMSS-3D because even if you dont have 5.1 or 7.1 headphones it will sound like you do. The helicopter test it plays for you is really awesome! Turn the Bass Boost is neat also. Turn on the cutoff freq to 100 % so you don't get distortion and add maybe 3-4 DB of bass for those arty strikes. It will scare the hell out of you, lol, but in a good way. Also leave the 24-bit Crystalizer all the way up so your weapons sound nice and sharp.

All in all you made a good purchase. Beware that if you install the buttload of software that comes with it, it may **** up your DVD drive as it did mine so when ever I put a new cd in it would restart my computer. Listening to music and playing games is a whole different world now and you will find a bunch of cool stuff to tinker with your music as well to cater more to what you want to hear. I personally like turning on the EAX for mp3's and pretending I am at a concert and hear what it would sound like. I can't tell you how cool it is! I hope you enjoy it!

Battlefield 2 (note: the game which you are on the forums of) has an x-fi mode. Christ, do your research.
edit: it's the ultra high setting, which can only be enabled with the x-fi series sound cards at this time.

edit 2: 64MB is plenty for the system to prefetch a great number of sounds onto a sound card, seeing as how most sounds are 3 second clips. Software engineers can easily work within a 64MB buffer for the time being...you think games now dedicate more than that to sound cacheing? yeah, right.

If you are talking to me Repub, you need to re-read my post. BF2 does NOT use the onboard sound memory, just because they support X-Fi doesn't mean they use it nub. Why don't you search and read reviews of the card instead of pretending you know such information.

Yes, and I read your post, I was explaining why I think it's incorrect. I'll ask EA about it, though.
