I was wondering how many people are actually communicating 'in-game' but not using the built-in voip feature (that rarely works). I run a TS server at home and when my friends are all online we get in a squad together (locked) and communicate via TeamSpeak. I really like being able to talk to each other and discuss what just happened or strategy while the next level loads.
In game voip or Teamspeak?

Re: In game voip or Teamspeak?
I found being in the same sqaud as the commander while he was using VOIP was brilliant, he kept everyone informed about who was were constantly, and made us easily beat the other side time and again.
It also seems a lot more real, when you are communicating amongst your squad.Comment

Re: In game voip or Teamspeak?
I always play in my clan's server and we all use Ventrilo as well. If there's a non-clan in my squad, I'll use the game's VOIP, though.

Re: In game voip or Teamspeak?
Played with all, Vent sounds better when setup correctly. TS was the easiest to use and in game a lot of poeple seem to sound very low.
But running vent/ts also is great, if you play with friends/clanmates you can talk chit to them when they are on the other side. Also talking tactics while the maps loads is great.Comment

Re: In game voip or Teamspeak?
I have ventrilo, teamspeak, and voip all going at the same time - no conflicts. Out of all of them I think vent is the best...which I have only begun to use recently. I have been using TS for years, and have a server running it 24/7 - but vent has really impressed me.
In game voice is decent - but I noticed it cuts in and out sometimes - depending on the server. The one benefit it has over the others (some might not think it is benefit - but I do) - is that it turns down the ambient in game noise and sound effects when teammebers talk - so you can hear them more clearly.
In game voice also makes it easier to join up and be able to talk - rather than spending time finding the right vent or ts server that everyone else on your server is on. more servers need to put that on the loading screen - rather than only in spam messages through console. lots of them do not even advertise them as they are clan servers. with clan voice servers.
i have a server set up so that when my friends log in - they can join my game server on xfire (or vice versa) - and they can just click through xfire to join me in TS. Right now xfire does not do the same feature for vent that i am aware of.Comment

Re: In game voip or Teamspeak?
Thanks for all the info, it would be cool if TS or ventrillo would lower game sounds like the in game voice does, right now I just have TS turned up a bit loud as to cover the game sounds. We run voice activated so it really sucks when someone gets hit and yells in my ear....Comment

I use TS and VOIP. I tried Vent a while back with another game and I never really noticed any difference in the sound quality over TS. I also found the user ineterface of Vent a little cumbersome.Comment
