    Anyone got any tips for using PS2 controller?

    Hi All

    I just set up my PS2 controller through a USB adapter for playing BF2. I am having a few teething troubles:

    1. I have to re-install the drivers everytime I restart my PC and sometimes I get a Code (10) and the drivers don't work. Any ideas? I have the PS2 adapter plugged into my PCI usb hub.

    2. All the PS2 buttons are analogue ofc but to get them to respond I have to push the buttons in all the way, which means pushing them very hard. Is it possible to change this? Perhaps there is some better software out there.

    3. I can't set up the analogue sticks to take over the mouse look. There doesn't seem to be a setting for this. I don't plan on playing infantory with the ps2 controller but it would be nice to be able to run to the next plane/heli without having to switch back to the mouse.

    4. Any suggestions on a good set up? I have it set up like this atm:

    Left Stick = Pitch and Roll
    Right Stick = Throttle
    L2&R2 = Rudder
    L1 = FIRE
    R1 = ALT FIre

    U, D, L, R (D-Pad) = Change Views (F9, F10, F11, F12)
    X = Countermeasures
    O = Parachute
    ^ = Enter/Exit
    [] = Afterburn

    L3 = Change Weapon
    R3 =

    It seems to work fairly well apart from having to push the shoulder buttons in so hard to use the rudder.

    I would love to hear any ideas, suggestions or advice other players might have and if I come up with any suggestions myself while I get used to using the PS2 controller I will let you all know.

    Thanks

    Hi M8,

    Firstly i think this might get moved, so be prepared.

    I personally dont use a gamepad for BF2, so i can't help to much with your button setup.

    However i have used numerous versions of USB adaptors for PS2 gamepads in the past and have had problems with them all when playing Driving or Simulator based games. The drivers are the main issue.

    What you need is a PS2 Style Pad which connects straight to your PC and Windows will recognise without any additional drivers.

    Ta da! Check this out!

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC-USB-Game-Pa...QQcmdZViewItem

    Tesun make a fantastic pad specifically for the PC. Now I know it doesn't look much, and judging by the price you're probably thinking its cheap C***.
    But i can assure you i have used it on the likes of Moto GP 3, Toca 2 and numerous demos which require a Gamepad with no problems whatsoever. You can even redefine the buttons without any problems.

    This could be the solution to your problems. I know it worked for me.

    I found this item on Ebay, thats where i bought mine. But try a Google on Tesun see what comes up.

    Hope this helps

      i have a ps2 controller on a usb converter on my Pc for BF2 also. And well i'd highly recommend you remove your 'drivers' simply because a PS2 controller doesn't require drivers.

      Plug it in press the 'analgue' red button on the controller callibrate and ur done.

          the PS2 controller owns, admittedly its not entirely suited for flying jets but its stil lfar better than a mouse and keyboard, as for other games like GTA etc theres no better joypad you could possibly buy.

            I can see that being true for other games - just never would have thought of using a gamepad for something like bf2 is all i was getting at.

            If you don't have a joystick - then yeah - i would prefer a pad over a K/M too....i think - although not a big fan of ps2 controller....prefer atari :P

                here's a good tip, listen closely....you paying attention?.....umm..DON"T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! controllers were meant for consoles, if you really want to use a controller do like a lot of us are doing and wait for battlefield: modern combat to come out. of course, u are using a ps2 controller so your kinda screwed there....pawn your ps2, get an xbox, and buy bf:mc in late october.

                  I hope you're only using your controller for flying, because the keyboard/mouse combo is superior in every other category.

                    I tried mine out for a heli the other night and I really liked it.
                    I would STAY FAR away from it for ground combat though.

                        ^ Agreed. There's no autoaim like most console fps so the chances of you hitting something are slim.

                          Use a proggy called Joytokey! It let's you bind mouse axis to analog stick's. or D-pad w/e you want. I have the same setup with the PS2 cont. through a USB adapter. It's a Mayflash somehting something. I have driver's for it. Not sure if they are needed or not but...havn't had a problem yet. GTA with a mouse and key pfft! PS2 cont. pWns all!

                          I never dug the stick's in the FPS genre. But, X-Box lamers love em'.

                            I tinkered with this using an XBOX controller. I was struggling with the helo and tried everything.

                            IMO - on the ground, nothing better than keyboard mouse...in a jet, nothing better than a joy/throttle combo...in a helo...well now...I've tried many different configs including keyboard+mouse, joystick/throttle, xbox controller...I've finally settled on a keyboard+joystick combo. (HAH. Take that!). I use a Nostromo N52 and Saitek to fly the helo's.

                            I think if you're coordinated enough (which I'm not) to fly keyboard + mouse...that's the best because of the sensitivity and control. I HAVE to fly with a joystick. It just doesn't feel right using a mouse.

                            <so for those that were counting...I have a keyboard, mouse, Nostromo N52, joystick and throttle. Tell me my desk isn't cluttered...I'm just glad the game handles multiple input devices>

                              i hope all you guys using gamepads use them for infantry fights so theres more people for me to kill....seriously, gamepads will never be accurate untill they come with mouses attached. i dont care who you are a mouse is infinitely more precise. for planes however, id take 1 in a heartbeat over mouse/keyboard.
