BF2 lag issues

Not sure if this is the right place to ask....but anyway....

I run BF2 on the following setup at home:

Athlon 2600+ (Socket A, Not an A64)
MSI Motherboard
BFG 6800 OC AGP
1 Gig PC3200 Kingston Hyper X Ram
Sound Blaster Audigy ZS
Cable Modem

This setup at work:

Athlon 1700+
ABIT Motherboard
Radeon 8500
512 MB PC2700 (PNY I think)
Generic PCI Sound Card
DSL Connection (tested at DSL reports at 1/2 the speed my cable modem)

When i play at home I get alot of lag all the time, it's been so bad lately that I quit playing at home altogether. When I play at work the load times are slower and lags the first 3 minutes of playtime but then runs fine.

Any opinions/suggestions on why my "better" machine at home runs worse than my work setup? Also any tweak recomendations to get it running better at home?

Router? turn off Xfire and anything else running in your tool bar and defrag do spyware scans and clean out all the useless crap that boggs your system down

I'll have to double check my ping, can't remember off the top of my head. My broadband connection goes from cable modem to a wireless router. My main pc is hard wired to the router, and whenever I am gaming, my main PC is the only one PC running and I have verified that there is NO wireless activity going on while I am playing.

It lag happens at all times of the day, mid day and also at the early AM hours.

you may have your graphics settings too high... try dropping everything right down to basics then work your way up. did it used to run fine?

I run all settings high/ had some on ultra high but i dont see much of a difference , 6xaa 1280x1024@66hz and it runs smooth as silk. Whenever I do lag I noticed that my ping could be anywhere from 300 -700. I noticed since im on a network that when I am lagging it has to do with my sister using her aolim and watching videos on launch.com . Are you on a shared connection with other users? Also you have 1 gig ram , I had 1 gig and upping to 1.5 has allowed for superb playability with the highest settings. I can only assume that 2gig would be even better. If all else fails try adding atleast another 512 since ram is relatively cheap these days.Playing with all settings maxed when I had only 1 gig and having 1.5 gig is far better than I could have imagined. good luck man

Run a speed check, just google it theres some free ones. Might be the isp or modem. If thats the case just reset the router and modem by unpluggin and waitin 20 seconds then back in. If thats not it and your ping is low, then you might need even more ram then that or to tone down the graphics. Also SP2 screws up bf2 and makes it run slower. So if you have it on home comp and not work that might add to the lag.

OK - did some testing, checking misc background applications and the results of a uninstall, regclean, re-install.

The 1st game runs pretty smooth, only minor lag issues, but the following games get worse to the point that even the commander screen is slow and sluggish. I am getting on maps with 24, 32, 50, and 64 people, all different servers are the same as far as lag goes, 1st game great, everything after sucks.

Modem test: 4 MBS Down, 0.5 MBS up (DSL reports)
No shared connections with any other PC in the house (unplugged all network cables)
"Rebooted" cable modem
Tried graphics at low on up to high, lag is slightly worse at high than it is at low after 1st game.
I run WinXP Pro at home with SP1 (no SP2 installed) and latest Nvidia drivers.
Nothing seems to help.

Still not sure about ping. Is there a way to have the ping on screen while playing?

I have also had issues lately.

I have two accounts, the first runs smooth, the second runs like arse on the same settings.

Also, this game seems to be unplayable at pings over 200.

update ur punkbuster manualy, that solves a ton of high ping/lag/getting disconnected problems for me

Hehe, I play during my lunchbreak, get 2 or 3 games in. Im a civil/structural engineer.

I find that msn gives out alot of lag and so does IE and Firefox, but for some reason my azureus torrent program dosent give off any lag while downloading. Xfire gives off no lag that i know of.

One other thing to keep the lag away, beat your brother for turning on limewhire on the other computer.
