I've got the Saitek Cyborg EVO, I just cant seem to get the throttle/collective right to hover. Maybe its just me, but its either too high or too low, I just cant get the "sweet spot" for hovering. I still fly helos with it, as I rarely hover with it - to easy to get shot down. I do like the twist rudder, very nice for both planes & helos. It also auto-centres by force-feedback & the spring strength can be adjusted. So the short answer is - its not gr8 for hovering !

p.s. The driver has a small bug in mine, if you power up the stick then throttle is at 1/2 power & rudder is at 1/2 twist. If you get in a helo it will crash immediately & you look like a n00b. Just cycle the stick on ALL axis & it clears it

1)I have the logitech extreme 3D pro.

2)Around $30. I think I got it on sale at Target. Every where else was 10 - 15 more.

3)It centers back, does not have force feedback.

4)I'm an ok heli pilot. So, I also have a hard time finding the "sweet spot" when hovering above a flag. It seems I do alright when I have a lot of altitude. It is when I get in the tight spots I have trouble with my throttle.

5)I wanted the wireless one. The wireless one had a smoother throttle when I played with it at the store. It has plenty of buttons for BF2. Don't know about that for other flight sims.

Logitech does make a force feedback of the 3D Pro. It is around $70.

I got my Logitech extreme 3d pro in the mail yesterday. So I haven't fully judged it yet, but I'm already inpressed in how my flying skills have improved. In Dalian, I was flying the SU-30 with a gunner, everytime I got repairs or ammo in the jet, I flew through the hanger, I got it like 7 times in a row before I quit hotdogging, I was also in and out of those oil things everywhere, me and the copilot had about 18 kills before I was hit by a heat seeking tree. The copilot was cracking up over voip every time I made some insane move. It is spring powered obviously, and I don't have a favorite feature yet.

Alright, I got sidetracked.

It's a great stick, I've never done any flight sims or anything, and I picked up the jet off the bat. I haven't gotten ahang of the cobra or other choppers yet, but with a little practice, I should be proficient. I can attack and kill with the chopper, it just gets complicated when you want to hover or slow down for anything. You have to have one hand on the throttle, and just move it up and down whenever. I still haven't found a good button config that I like, but that'll come with time. The calibration is perfect at the moment. I paid 30 bucks with free 2 day shipping at zipzoomfly, which is 10 bucks less than the evo. I also really like the name logitech, 99% of all my gear has a logitech lable on it. It would be a sin for me to go with a saitek.

I bought and returned the Logitec extreme 3D pro, had it for about 10 days and bought it basically for planes [variable throttle.]

From the chopper end, mouse/ keyboard is just so much easier for me; way too much over-correction and way too much play in the stick to get a response (has to move an inch or so to begin to trigger despite all the tweaking I could muster & not a chance going through the Dam tunnel @ full tilt.)

Definitely improved flying jets, making the motions much more intuitive [stick and twist combos - keep in mind you may want to fly inverted in a jet] never could get the throttle to work in fractions and tasking the keys took days to figure out, manual is horrible and help menu is moronic to include the fact that it doesn't define one of the setting adjustments such as less means.... and more means.... had to look up X and Y axis on a general internet sight and could find no online support worth a dang.

Nice feel, cheap ($29 @ a Target store,) and would have kept it if there was any kind of support/ manual.

Strange but I may buy it again if I can dig up some support and proof that you can make it very resposive to slight movements. Also, never even got to this step but VERY curious if there's a way to auto-settle to level flying because that was half the problem with all the over-correcting.

i use a Microsoft Sidewinder Force-Feedback Pro 2

No i brough it 2years ago and it always rock

yes by a pwerfull force feeback (ajustable) ...usefull for precision use of the jet minigun

4.) how is the throttle - does it allow enough control to set a hover and not have to fiddle with it, once you get proficient?

yes it has a throttle and more than enough precision to hover perfectly the f35 in vertical position.

5.) what features, if any, do you dislike about the joystick you are using?

i dislike not many one use it.

It autocenters by spring.

I can fine the center just fine, (like for brining a plain to a stop on a runway) but it seems alot harder to do in a helecopter for some reason.

You have to calibrate the stick in game before you fly every once in a while or there is a slight drift. (move it all the way foward, back, left, and right and twist the rudder control all the way both ways) But it only takes a few seconds and it's never bad enough for me that you can't take off. I usually just take off and do it in the air, it dosen't seem that you can calibrate it unless you're in an vehicle set to use the stick so you can't do it on the ground before you get in. It has never made me crash though. Some people don't like the throttle being in the center of the stick but I've never had a problem with it

One thing I do like though is the amount of customizability the stick gives you. You can adjust alot so it's fits real well wiith your hand.

Thanks for all the input so far. I was afraid I would hear things like this though...about the throttle controls that is. Now I have more of an understanding as to why there are not more joystick chopper pilots out there with the things people have said thus far.

This is what was making me thing about getting the one setup that has a seperate throttle and joystick. One would think that would be the best control...but I have yet to hear from someone that has it. I know there are people with them because they have posted in the past.

I have always used logitech gaming devices (mice, game pads, FF joysticks, FF steering wheel) - but a couple of years ago they went down hill with the new line of products. When I used to work with a gaming company, logitech used to hook us up with all the gear for free to test out - I miss those days for sure.

I have a Cyborg 3D and I'm pretty happy with it.. I think you should get an EVO.

Yeah the new ones do. I have had my logitech for over 6 years now - been running like a champ. The only thing wrong with it is that the force feedback motors are pretty much shot now. Might be because I always ran the thing at 150% force...heh. Now it has about as much force in it as a 95 year old arthritic.
