No offense jimbob, but are you a PR rep for the PRC or what? It wouldn't surprise me if China had a few million of it's fervently nationalistic citizens trolling forums in defense of the party. I'm not saying you are, but you seem quite eager to see China as a superpower, maybe even a lone one. Are you saying that Communist China, as a prime political and military influence, would do better for this world? If you say yes, then IMO, you're out of your freakin' mind...

hehehe no im not. that is a funny idea though. i am certainly not keen to see them as a single superpower but their presence is needed to balance out the vacuum currently underway. "Communist" china is probably not the best way to describe them mate. the only thing communist left is in the party name. actually, come to think of it - things would probably be better with them as prime military influence. China has no imperial ambitions (other than the obvious of course). they simply have enough people to worry about as it is. in fact the next 20 years of planned development are inwardly focused so if anything they would keep irresponsible, gung ho countries in line instead of messing things up more than they already were... it is hard for you guys to know what china is really like when all u have is FOX and CNN (etc) and western print media to go off... (that and not speaking mandarin lol)

well actually its not the middle ages its from the period of the industrial revolution

"ring around the rosie" = a description of the symptom - the pockmarks were distinctly "ringed" by inflamation and bruising

"a pocket full of posie" = the discharge released from the pocks had an acrid rotting smell - victims would often stuff their loins and coat pockets with posie flowers as this was meant to combat the smell

"atissue atissue" (or whatever) = sneezing, coughing - tantamount to full blown smallpox

"we all fall down" = we all die lol

its pretty feaky when you realize what the song is about... but this singsong is well documented - no one knows the exact time it originated but the first records of it appear in 18th century

i'm afraid you are wrong - currently China has THE largest military budget - the funny thing is since all of its logistical agencies are government controlled it is almost impossible to get the figure out of them. From talking to friends workin in steel over there it must be alot more than what we are all led to believe.

I'm sorry, but China is increasing it's defense spending by about 10% a year, this is true. And they are also pushing hard to buy weapons from the Europeans. But China is no where NEAR the U.S.'s defense budget.

U.S. spending is 7.2 times more than china's. Additionally if you add all of America's allies to the list it accounts for about 80% of the world's defense spending.

And I have to ask, do people really think China would be a better superpower than the USA??? US might not be perfect, but I'd go out on a limb and say China is worse. Anyone remember tiananmen square?
