    outside view when driving

I was thinking about how people run into friendly mines even when they seem really visible, and have come to the conclusion that they must be driving in the first person. That view is very restrictive and gives you less time to react to mines. So my suggestion as a eng to my fellow BF2 players is to drive with the outside view and avoid running into friendly mines. It also helps when you have a gunner so you can spot targets for him easier. I am mostly talking about jeeps, cause they are what run into my defensive mines most often. What do you guys think....

No, here is the problem, stop putting your mines across choke pionts like this:

    Code:
And start putting them like this:

    Code:
    x

       x

          x
Unless you're 98% sure an enemy vehicle will cross your mine trap before a friendly vehicle, don't put them all in a neat row. In most cases you would only need one mine in the center to do a roadkill/block, mines have quite a damage radius.

If you're in a Tank or APC and driving in 3rd person view, it's rather difficult to engage a target. You would have to waste precious time switching back to 1st person.

i always drive the FAVs, the jeeps and the hummers in third person -- its much easier and gives you a much greater viewing radius so you can see that APC lining up to take you out and yes you can notice mines much better before you run into them at 50 mph

Outside view is also great for when your in a tank/apc capping a flag. It lets you see the enemy sneaking up on you to throw C4 on your. I have run a bunch of people over because i saw them when the barrel of the gun was pointing in the other direction but i was using the outside view.

I always drive jeeps and boats in 3rd person. I'll drive armor in 3rd person until I reach the area where I expect to engage other vehicles, I find that it helps prevent mine, C4, and AT ambushes. I've got cycle-view on my fourth mouse button, so it is pretty quick getting back to front view.

3rd person also makes it easier to roadkill.

The 3 key is bound to your primary weapon by default.

The only problem with driving in 3rd person is that you cannot look left or right while you're driving and you cannot use your primary weapon properly if you're in an APC

So I tend to mix 1st and 3rd person views depending on the situation.

I think another problem is that most people don't realize their 3D map is turned off, so they don't get those nice skull and crossbones.

That's being said, I switch views while driving all the time. The camera controls are set to my mouse buttons (3,4,5).

"C" button for me is the default change camera view. press once to get 3rd person (which i always do when driving jeeps, especially on long runs across maps), once i run into infantry in the open, i press "C" three more times to get back to 1st person view, F1 to get to gunner position and take them out. With practice, you hit the C button quick and you can switch from view-to-view and position-to-position pretty quickly. I end up getting a lot of my vehicle kills that way. Although, in laggier servers, you can end up hitting C too many times and you'll end up screwed due to the delay. Main guns in vehicles are worthless in 3rd person view, you'll HAVE to switch out.

Thanks for the replys, some of you understood what I was talking about. When it comes to driving around in jeeps, 3rd person view is the way to go. When capping flags with tank or apc, 3rd person lets you see hiding infantry and spot spec ops sneaking.

I like your idea of using the c button, it makes it simple because you just use one button. I have decided to go with 3 buttons, each with their own view. That way I dont have to worry about the wrong view showing up, like flyby.
