Stingers - What's the secret?

Sorry if there's already a thread regard this...I couldn't find one.

I really want to believe that a good Stinger gunner can counter Blackhawks, or any other air vehicle for that matter, I really do, but it seems everytime I man one, I'm destroyed within seconds of lockon, especially if the aircraft is flying towards me.

Are there any good Stinger or AA gunners out there who can share their knowledge?

One thing, dont just sit in the turret when there is no way you will hit something. when pilots see you in bomb view, you appear as a square indicating a vehicle, which the bomber gunner can also lock a missile onto you.

when the enemy is within sights hop in and take the shots (preferably when the flares have dropped and when the vehicle is flying straight away from you is when you have the best chance to hit.

When the aircraft is flying away from you is the best time to let 'er rip. I have very little luck shooting at a target moving sideways across my field of view. Wait for the flairs before you shoot as well.

Don't get in one if enemy coming towards you. Hop out and hide behind the sandbags. then once it passes jump back in and try to hit it. Wait for flares. A pilot will always drop flares.

I also think they are crap, but, the trick I use and most of the time it actualy works.

Aim at chopper (blackhawk, attackchopper, ....) but do not fire directly on the moment you got a lock on, wait untill he relaeses his flares, the split second when they are gone fire both.

Also, when the chopper isn't to far from you and he is not moving in a line towards you or away from you there is a big chance you miss him, then you need to aim a bit in the front of the chopper so the missiles don't have to make a big turn.

another tip, stinger misiles track down friendly choppers or airplanes much better then enemy choppers or airplanes, so when you have the friendly chopper also in sight even if it's further away and the enemy is locked on the stingers will go for the friendly chopper and you will have teamkills and you will get punished for it

Most of the time I man the AA placements, If they are pretty close I fire AS SOON as I get a lock. Because of the fact that most pilots will delay the flares because they know most people WON'T fire immediately. I fire & those rockets are up their tailpipe before they even drop the flares. If they are way off, then I will usually wait till the drop them. I get many many kills because I fire right away. I love it! Other then that, I don't even waste my time on jets. I think I only even took dont one jet, & that was because it was flying straight at me. I was probably already slightly damage too. not sure. I do know one thing. If I do lock on a jet & fire, I don't stay in the AA after I missed ... LMAO

yeah wait for flares to pop, once you get a lock, and there flying away form you..not at you..wait for the flares and as soon as you can get a lock on them right afetr the flares drop, fire all you stingers.
Dont bother with Jets, there is no surface to air possiblities. I a million attempts to shoot down jets Ive gotten 1-2 kills and maybe 3-5 dmg assist.

indeed , jets are like impossible to hit, but for some strange reason I have taken down two jets already with a tank, they came towards me for dropping there bombs and just took those guys down with one tank shell, very funny

They aren't perfect, they try to go for the backside of the jets and behind the rotor for the helis. So it is very hard to nail them when they come towards you. Your your best bet is to wait for them to be moving away from you and with the easiest angle of approach for it as possible. Check your minimap to make sure that your teammates are not in aircraft around the area either. And DO NOT shoot them off if your teams jets are already chasing after the enemy jet, it will lock onto your teammate because your teammate is between you and the enemy.

probably just make them less likely to veer off after an enemy that has an easier flight path to get to.

then again, they will probably go to the extreme and have them wayyy too powerful, then everyone will be bitching about how they are too strong.

amen to that! best tip of the day as far as I'm concerned... the stingers sux! to many times you watch the stinger fly off your field of view and a message comes up "team damage" leaving you dumbfounded thinking wft!! I locked on to a slow moving BH and it takes out one of my jets!! grrrrrr... EA/DICE fix this problem!
