Can't join multiplayer games

Hi all, I've just bought and installed BF2 but can't join multiplayer games. I connect to the account server ok and servers come up in the in game browser but when I try and join I just get dumped back to the server list, which then updates itself. I don't get an error message when this happens. I do get the "server is full" message with full servers and if I turn off punk buster I get "server requires punkbuster" message. In single player mode maps load up and play fine, this was also true for the BF2 demo. I've disabled windows firewall and have no other firewall software installed. I've downloaded and run the pbweb.exe to manually update punkbuster but it made no difference.
Does Anyone have any ideas about how I might resolve this?

run Battlefield 2_code.exe thats on the BF2 DISC in the \support folder... retype your cdkey...

Thanks for all of you input, I've got the 1.02 patch installed and will try re-entering the cd-key when I get home. I did install the game when the BF2 demo was still on my system so might try reinstalling it and removing all leftover BF2 and punkbuster files. I have a MSI Nforce3 motherboard and athlon 64 CPU and get the feeling that punkbuster may be having issues with the onboard LAN ( http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?t=9162 ) . My motherboard has 2 onboard LAN slots and I use one of them, is there a way of disabling just the one I'm not using?

The same thing happened to me after uninstalling BF1942. In fact, I even lost my ability to Uninstall BF2; you may have too.

The solution was to manually remove the game from your system and reinstall. Here are the directions:

Even if your Uninstaller works, it would be a good idea to follow these steps to ensure the same problem doesn't return from the Regestry.

I re-entered the cd-key as USAR_Uriel described and voila, it worked :) Thank you all for the help. I guess I must have entered the key incorrectly when I installed, strange how I never got an error message.

USAR_Uriel, thanks for that tip about the 2_code.exe! It worked and I didn't have to reinstall the game wich I really didn't want to do.

Well thanks, Im sure it will happen again if I happen to do something whacky like plug in a USB drive.


I opened this thread to say "let me save you a whole lot of hurt, just reinstall the damn game".

Good to see theres actually a solution amongst the gazzillion "fixes" posted.
