it is above average in close combat, but it is a joke in long range(even semi-auto).

at long range it needs to be used SINGLE SHOT (I assume thats what you meant by semi-auto ??) Its fine with a little practice & patience, I've had some mighty fine long range takedowns with the G3.

What I don't understand about the DAO...

The AT class is mainly a long-range class, since you want to engage armor from a distance. Yet, the unlock (and even the stock SMG) are close-in weapons. Can I get a WTF?

Like the sniper, if the Anti-Tank unlock was long range, then the class would be pretty useless at close distance. At least with the default guns hes somewhat effective, although the damage on the default guns suck.

The sniper sucking at close distance, i can deal with, cause ... well... hes a sniper... stealth, no armor, sniper gun... it works. The Anti-Tank guy would put that armor hes got to waste, if he were mainly a non CQC class. when it comes down to it... Anti-Tank is not the most effective against tanks... Special ops and Engineer beat him out 1 to 1. so might as well make him well rounded to compensate.

The DAO-12 does that pretty well

yeah i agree with that the anti tank buy isnt really that effective againsty tanks at all, in fact most of the time if i go as anti tank i use my rockets against infantry.

hmm, Iam glad this thread took off Iam getting some good info, I still cant decide though.. heres what I think, the g3 beats the dao gun in short range and long range, at short range between both guns is pritty close, but in most battles I see the g3 seems to always win, then in long range of course its a given..g3 wins, now where the dao gun has its advantage is against tanks/vechiles due to its rockets, but you dont use rockets as much as you would use the gun so.. Iam not sure about it, probally what ever I pick will do as good as the other gun, but I've used the dao gun alot in the past with a previous account and it takes like 4 shots to kill someone sometimes, thats what I dont get, and the reload is a killer, but both kits are probally equl so it shouldent matter what I end up with to much

Actually in CQC the DAO-12 does more damage then the G3, and should win every time if your halfway descent at aiming.

DAO-12 Damage = 12x8 (96 damage)
G3 Damage = 40

the problem witht he DAO-12 is that its a shotgun and sprays 12 little balls of terror doing 12 damage each. if your aim is bad, or the target is to far away, most wont hit. if your aim is good, and the target is close and you hit em direct hes dead in one (head shots) or two shots.

the DAO-12 is absolutely a better gun for CQC

I have both, and in CQC I get much better results with the G3 than with the DAO.
(I always have the G3 on single shot, so that it doesn't run out of ammo so quickly, and 2-3 shots always are enough to kill someone anyway, sometimes 1 is enough)

and the G3 deffinitely is a more versatile weapon, because it's also good at long range.

And the DAO has a long reloading time.

I chose DAO because it makes the biggest change for the kit.. not really a fan of the MP5 (and that's putting it mildly)

the G3's I picked up sure rock though, it all comes down to preference

If you like taking out tanks and vehicles, and play on close-combat maps then chose the DAO.
If you like killing infantry (cos it's easier ) and like shooting long and short distance then chose the g3

I never suggested a weapon that is useless at close distance like a sniper rifle. A standard XM-177E2 would be just fine.

I am noticing the same trend sadly. Karkand has become a bunnyhopping nightmare. Good thing the PKM takes care of them no prob. Anyway, as far as these two guns go, I would give the edge to the DAO...the G3 just doesn't have the magazine capacity and you will be cursing it the first time you come up against 2-3 enemies and have to reload the thing. The main plus is its power and there are hand grenades not the noobtube (I have never been good at aiming the GL)
