    Damage to vehicles

Following on from the great thread about damage to tanks, I did some tests on other vehicles. Not gonna do anything flashy, here's the conclusions:

    1) APCs take the same damage no matter where u hit them, leaving them with just over half health from an AT rocket.

    2) Small arms fire does zero damage to tanks and APCs. That includes the M95 and the support weapons.

    3) The center of the jeep's wheel is immune to damage from small arms.

    4) Grenades from the assault launcher do more damage when targetted at the treads of the tank (3.5 bars of damage).

    5) C4 does not do extra damage when planted on the treads of a tank compared to anywhere else. APCs seem to take proportianlly the same damage from C4 as tanks (strange one that).

    6) APC gun shots do next to no damage to the main armour of a tank, only really does damage to the treads. Aim for the treads.

    7) Jeeps take the same damage whereever they are shot.

remember, ALL VEHICLES IN BF2 ARE ***EASIER*** TO BLOW UP IF NOBODY IS DRIVING/FLYING THEM!

so, did you do all these tests on an EMPTY vehicle?

Depends if you are nit picking or not. Clearly he means when not using small arms. And clearly he assumes any smart person would follow rule 7 with regards to rule 3.

Good post, I never really aimed for any particular place when shooting at tanks when in the LAV/BTR vehicles.

Apc are weakest on the turrent, tanks on the treads aim a grenade from an elevated possition to the tank and aim for the man hole and it well do a bit of damage but not much.

ypically in that position you are screwed anyway. So do as much damage as possible and hope a teamamte shoots them shortly after.

Thanks for the replies. These were in empty vehicles. I'll check and update the post when I can do it in an occupied vehicle, and I'll also check the damage to the turret of the APC, think I forgot to check whether that does more damage. Preliminary tests indicate the hand grenade does the same damage as the assualt grenade launcher. If anyone else has done similar tests let me know and I can update this thread...perhaps make it a repository for useful small snippets of info?
