battle field 2 failed to install

ive installed bf2 just fine before, but lately it kept crashing for some unknown reason
so i tried to reinstall, but it fails!
it get thru about half way with disc one then it gives and error saying it failed to install, and i need to start from the beginning

it gives no other information

there is nothing wrong with the discs they are in perfect condition
and it even fails with the back ups that i had made

im guessing that the installer program, what ever its called, if fuxed up or something

this morning i tried to install it again, and it got thru, what i thought was disc one, but when it asked for disc 2 i started looking for it
and im like wtfbbq i cant find it. but it was already in the cdrom

so i tried installing on my windows back up partition, which has absolutely nothing but windows installed, it it still fails

so does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Yes, there is a registry entry getting in your way. Most likely, you will have to manually uninstall the game before you can reinstall. Follow these steps to remove the game from your PC:

You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.

To delete the save files:

1.
Open My Documents.
2.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.

To delete the game files (in the default location):

1.
Open My Computer.
2.
Open the C drive.
3.
Open the Program Files folder.
4.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
5.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
6.
Close all open windows.
7.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

1.
Click on the Start button.
2.
Click on Run.
3.
Type regedit in the text field.
4.
Click File and then choose Export.
5.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
6.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
7.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
8.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
9.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
10.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
11.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
12.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
13.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
14.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
15.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
16.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
17.
Right-click and choose Delete on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}.
18.
Close the Registry Editor.

Battlefield 2 should now be completely uninstalled. If anything appears to be working incorrectly after editing the registry, simply double-click on the Backup file on your desktop to restore the old registry.

if i wouldnt have tried installing on a new install of windows i would say yes, thats prolly the problem.

but alas, this is a brandnew windows install, not even drivers are installed yet, and it still fails

edit: i tried it anyways, still doesnt install, buuuut, it gave me a system dump this time.

seems as though ntdll.dl is causing the problem

Woot,/////// are you saying you have no drivers installed on an OS and are wondering why a program will not install.

You need to install "ALL" drivers for "ALL" of your "hardware" then install any and all programs m8, especially for a 3D application.

the back up windows partition was soley there incase my main windows partition ever got corupted, so i would still be able to browse and save any files i might have had


but neither of the installs would let BF2 install
i ended up having to reformat my entire hard drive to get it to work again

so all is well


edit: oh and not having 3d drivers or chipset drivers install wont stop a program from installing, it would only prevent it from running or really degrade its performance

Actually the game program detects your hardware setup and will crash on installation if the correct peace's for the puzzle are not detected :p
