  • Learning to MOD

How long did it take you guys to learn how to skin, model, code etc?

Not all three just your speciality.
I have used Oxygen lite for Operation flashpoint and it was lets say
    'a challenge' to use.
How ever i got most of the addon done, then i lost interest in OFP when BF2 came out . I learnt to use it in around 1 week. So how long did it take you guys to learn to Model, code, skin etc?

    Re: Learning to MOD

    On coding:
I put in as much time as I have, it just helps to read other peoples problems and the answers they are given, on sites such as this one or the editor forums.
Scan through the original bf2 files where you can find a lot of info about the inner workings. What triggers what and why, different values that things can have, what works with one thing but not with another....
    Just using notepad.

I wouldn't try to do all three of those things you mentioned. I just looked at skinning but there seems little point in starting when there's so much that can be done just with the coding.

Try and be able to do the basics then find a junior position on a mod with seperate coders/skinners/modellers just because you won't be perfect at all three, so you might as well become proficient in just one. IMO

      Re: Learning to MOD

Yeh thanks Nob33er4u. Which would you say is the hardest to learn? i think its coding. thats why i wont bother with it . I really want to be able to make new weapons, units, vehicles etc, so i think i will try to specialise in Modeling.

      Thanks for the info mate.

        Re: Learning to MOD

It took me 3 years scence battlefield 1942 came out to learn to code almost everything I wanted. And I'm still learning a few things here and there...Coding is the best part of modding in my opinion...that is...if you have good modelers with the process.
