Sound card issues

Just got a Soundblaster Live! 24 bit 7.1 card. There's a problem though. While in game, the messages like "work harder soldier" are really choppy. All other sounds in game are great. Music plays fine (in and out of the game).

I've tried the drivers that came with the sound card as well as the newest ones from Creative's site and don't know what else to do. Problem shows up on high, medium, and low settings.

When using software for sounds, everything works fine.

Any ideas?

Have you reinstalled the game?

Did you install the sound card like after you installed the game?

i've had that card... its not really a top notch card and can't handle the sounds on high on its on. You can either turn your sounds to hardware-low or you can turn it to software high. The card can't process all the sounds on its own so you will probably have to set it to software so your processor can help. IMO i would buy a card that would let you play with hardware on high because it sounds better and frees alot of your resources for better gameplay.

This is a known problem with that card..unfortunately I don't know of a fix.

After doing some research, this card won't support hardware rendering and EAX.

Anyone know if the Creative Audigy 2 ZS will support hardware rendering?

That has to be crap, because I have a SB 5.1 Live! which is about 5 years old and that supports hardware rendering and EAX. BTW sounds great with my MedUSA 5.1 surroundsound headphones

But he doesn't have the same SB Live model you have...he has this weird crappy SB 24 bit wacky model.

Which is nicer, the Audigy 2ZS or the Audigy 4? The 2ZS is THX certified, but the Audigy 4 is newer.

If you have the money, why not get an X-Fi Xtreme Music or perhaps the FPS edition if you are really feeling rich.

Creative's X-Fi cards are the absolute newest and release official this month.

Don't want to spend the extra money on the X-Fi and have read some reviews that they aren't much better than either of the cards I'm looking at.

Ended up going with the Audigy 4 since it comes with a remote and I watch movies on the computer while in bed sometimes. For those comparing the two cards, they are pretty much identical except the Audigy 2ZS says "THX certified" (same sound as the Audigy 4 though which doesn't carry the designation) and the Audigy 4 comes with a remote.
