Autorun.exe Unable to locate component

Hi all,
I had to do a reinstall of xp and now I cant get the autorun.exe on the cd to work. I comes up with the error

"This application has faild to start because .dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I tried installing Installshield, demoshield, and install wizard with no luck. I downloaded and installed xp64 beta and still have the same error. I tried copying the cd's to the hd (according to ea's directions) still no luck. The closest thing the error has shown me to a complete file name was N.Dll.
When I try to run setup.exe from the cd I get the
"setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" crap.

Sounds like you have a bad disc

Have you tried cleaning it or having it cleaned?

I'm assuming your drive can read other CDs and install other applications/games just fine...

no, other cds do not work. I get different errors with other games (tron 2.0, SoF 2) but the autorun.exe will not work. setup.exe's and such downloaded seem to work (i.e. winzip and drivers), but not when copied from cd to hd.

DeathGiver, I am still searching that thread with no luck so far(theres alot of info there that dose not apply to me) not to be rude.

Sounds like you have a bad CD drive there buddy...time to get a new one?

I dont think its the cdrw. It works fine in every other aspect. To test it I got a clean .iso and tried to dl deamon tools to emulate a cd but the .exe causes a windows installer error. So I am not sure that it isnt the drive. Someone mentioned that maybe there is a bad sector on my hd and that is why the problem transfers to both os's that I have tried. I have to try and test that tonight but I fear it may require another reinstall and format . Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanx.

How many RAM sticks have you got?
Have you tested each stick of RAM?
Have you used MD5 summer to check Windows?
Is your registry OK?
Is your windows updater + SP up to date?

MMmmm when you formatted the HD did you just use the quick method if so use the long time method or writhing Zeros method to the HD to remove the slightest traces of any leftover digital code then reinstall windows.

No, I dont know what that is. Is it a free download?

not sure. I ran a couple of those registry fixers and "fixed" as much as I could with the free versions. I am tempted to copy it from a know good xp and paste it into mine. After all whats the worst that could happen? a reinstall?

The formats were done each time I reinstalled windows. I used the full not the quick selection for the install. If that is the one that writes zeros then yes I did. I read through that thread (great info btw) but didnt find any soulutions. I will go through it again and see if I missed anything.

Can you borrow a cd player from someone to test on your pc to see if it's a faulty cd player........

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is a common problem, its called a dead disk drive, to fix it you need to go to the store and buy a new one. Optical drives die all the time. Its a fact of life. Usually the drive belts break. can you feel it/hear it spinning the disk? Put the disk in with the label facing perfect forward, then try to read said disk, after it says no disk in drive (which is what it says after drive goes bad, if it can't spin it, it dosen't see it) eject disk and see if it is still sitting in the exact same position. Or take a marker and draw a line across the disk onto the tray for exact answer. Even if it is still spinning, It may still be bad. I have a whole stack of dead optical drives that do the exact same thing.

I can boot, install windows, read from and write to the drive. I downloaded the .iso file and tried to use daemon tools to emulate the cd drive but the tools installer causes a windows installer error and crashes. I dont have access to another cd drive at this time.

I tried the copy the files to hd then run from there but ran into the same problem with autorun.exe and setup.exe. I will try clearing out bg programs as suggested in one of the links.

This is just a hunch, but be sure you installed your motherboard chipset drivers after the reformat so that your IDE interface won't cause errors.

EDIT
You may have success by following the manual UNinstall procedure. I had to once to get the game to run and/or uninstall. The EA site is down right now or I would give you the link. It's in these threads all over the place.
