Is the commander cheat really a cheat?

I notice some commanders using the arty and resign cheat to rack up some points. If you dont know what it is, its when the commander shoots artillery over an area, and then resigns, and in doing so, he gets points for all the kills, and then he just reapplys for the commander job.

Even though I have never done it before, I really dont think of it as a cheat, like i do with the kill/revive hack. Commander dont get any points for kills, which is a big reason why commanders that never win have so few points. I can play a round of commander and never leave with more than 30 points. Of course the double points for a win is nice, but it still doesnt seem to matchup to some of the other scores in the round. So, on to my original question. Do you think its really a cheat?

yes it's a cheat, your playing the game not the way it was designed in order to gain points, your stat padding in a sense...

That part I agree with, but commanders still dont get a lot of points unless they win. This would even it out a bit. Once again, I have never done this, so dont start calling me a hacker or any of that immature stuff. I just wanted everyones opinion, thats all.

I never knew you could do that!? lol. Interesting though. I was wondering why my comm points weren't counting for Global. Then again I haven't played pubs in over a month and a half....

It's not a cheat, it's an exploit. A cheat IMO is like a hack or some third-party program/software that allows you to do things other players who don't use that program cannot. An exploit is something that uses faults in the system to your benefit, but any player can do them, like stat padding.

No, not as bad, but it's still cheap and I'd be surprised if it wasn't fixed in the near(?) future. At least in order for it to work you have to drop arty and actually kill some enemies, and it can only be done once a minute, etc., plus at least by killing enemies he's still helping out his team, unlike stat padding which just wastes slots on the roster. It's just a cheesy tactic, but I don't put it on the same level as stat padding, no.

its hard for commanders to get lots of points with artillery, even if they get 30 artillery kills using this cheat its only 60 points so its not really an advantage. and they dont get 2x bonus cos they arent earning any commander points

Didnt know you could do that but i wouldnt do it cuz knowing my luck somebody esle would apply after i did that and get the position for me :laugh:

Artillery kills give NO points.. and commanders are usually medalists anyways...

I was playing on this server a few days ago, and the admin was doing this: nobody could mutiny against him for some reason, probably because he was the admin or something. And when I called him on it, I told him to stop his cheesy stat padding, he said "it's my server now **** off" then I got banned.
