    Why cant custom maps and mods be rank? because EA did design them or something along that matter

        Because it would be very easy to make a mod or map that heavily favored you. You could also secretly incorporate some hacks into it and most people wouldnt know what was going on. I can imagine EA eventually allowing other mods and maps to go through an approval system to allow them to become ranked, but right now you can only use the maps that came with BF2.
