I've posted this before, but it's about time for a repost to see if any superfly coders out there want to be part of this unique idea. Alternatively, if you want to read this, never contact me, steal this idea and go make it on your own, fine - just don't screw it up.
The problem:
BF2's kits are static and boring - play them 50, 100, 500 times and they start to get very old very fast. Further, often the kits aren't equipped or balanced the way we, as players, think they ought to be. A stale kit means stale gameplay. Let's face it - the honeymoon for BF2 is over, and we're getting bored of loading up the same old kit (because only 1-2 actually appeal to us at this point) and playing the game in the same old ways.
The concept:
Each gun, explosive, and piece of equipment will be assigned a point value. Players can select items as they please, drawing from a set pool of points. This effectively creates hundreds of possible "kits", since players can combine equipment in new and different ways, depending on their playstyle and goals.
Possible "kits" with this system (there are just ideas - the final point values and balancing will dictate what is possible):
- Sapper: Mines, Claymores, C4 and a pistol
- CQC Specialist: Body armor, two types of shotgun, smoke grenades
- Support Trooper: Health, Resupply, Defib, pistol
- Endurance Trooper: Carbine, Resupply, Hand Grenades
Or you can just create variations of your old favorites:
- Modified Spec Ops: Claymores, Carbine, Pistol
- Modified Assault: Body Armor, Pump Shotgun, Hand Grenades
- Modified Engineer: Wrench, C4, Assault Rifle
- Modified Medic: Defib, Health, Carbine
If we can find modelers and skinners, we can add more equipment too - thus increasing the depth even more. Think about adding some more goodies (ala BFV, for example) that you can work into your custom kit. Oh, the potential!
Next steps:
I need help. Yes, that kind of help, but I also need help with this mod idea - primarily coders who can deconstruct BF2's current system and help me architect a new one. I don't just want code monkeys - you also need to be willing to weigh in on new gameplay ideas, balance issues, etc. This needs to be OUR mod, not me trying to get someone else to execute my idea - so only respond if you believe in the concept and can bring your ideas to the table.
This can be expanded into a larger mod, too, so if any of you existing modders like this concept enough to roll it into your current project, let me know.
