Fire Fix - This is Actually Worx

Ok heres what ive discovered over the last week when it comes to this nasty thing we call fire...

editing the con file to insert fire doesnt mean it will work it still crashes

puting the fire up high enough will stop crashes but means it looks rediculous

sometimes and i mean sometimes it will work if you save the fire with an object as a bundle

    so my conclusion... simple

    goto the level editor

    open up: bf2/objects/staticobjects/ambienteffects/static

and drag in your favorite effect, set it up as you like

now for the secret which ive tested 5 times already and its working i tell you its working perfectly

    click compile>envmaps>generate envmaps
and the click compile>generate particle atlas

    it should say done
now im not going to pretend i have any idea what the hell i just did what it does or whether its even why it works but i have discovered that i can do anything in my effects now xcept perform a rain dance because i die of 3rd degree burns

thnx go out to Cobra[AJO] for that one

so for all of you who have seen valley_of_violence expect a new and imporoved flamable version woo hoo

who wants to bet my next test CTD

Plunk, thanks for this it worked for me. It worked for the fire I just added. The problem I am still having is that the fire (and I think the water fountain spray) that I added before which was causing the Crash to desktop is still making the map crash. Your solution didn't help out those objects. And I can't get them out of my map and your solution doesn't keep those previous ones from crashing. Any ideas?

ok i had this same problem and i havnt got good news for you... it appears that in some situations the fire can cause a permanent CTD mark on your map you could try deleting all the objects within a 10 metre radius of the fire but this still didnt work for me... i ened up reverting to a prvious version of my map and starting again... all i can say is guys finish your map completely... test it polish it off and then add fire into it before your final release and you shouldnt have any trouble it worked for me as can be seen in bf2_valley_of_violence_final

just get this routine into you head.

everytime you make a change, compile a lightmap, generate particle atlas, generate decal atlas, create new ground hemi.

I do this before I save my levels everytime I change something, and I've never had the fire problem

I did all of the above but in a failed attempt i still had CTD marks on the map... not sure what went wrong so i simply reverted to a previous version and made it work as stated above
