    Need help!

Hi, I'e been playing Bf2 now for a little while and really enjoy playing.

I feel out of my depth when looking at installing new maps and mods

Are there any idiot guides that people could point me in the righ direction. Only had my own computer for about six months so i'm not so confident about changing programmes and other stuff like that. (if you understand that)

If i download some of the fantastic looking maps what do I do after that?

If there is already something here please don't flame me just put up a link. I tried searching but it seems like everyone knows what they are doing more than I do!

    Thanks for any help.

Maps & mods will be compressed into either self-installing files or zip/rar (etc) files.

If they're self-installing all you should need to do is run the installer, and check the BF2 patch it chooses is correct.

For zip/rar files you'll need to extract the contents manually, you can use Winrar from rarsoft.com to do this.

Maps go in: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels (or whatever path is for your Battlefield 2 folder) in their own folder.

Mods go in: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\ in their own folder.

Some mini-mods have a .bat file that you need to run to copy maps across, for example the 21CW mod. In this folder C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\21cw\levels there's a file called CopyLevels.bat then you need to double click to copy the original BF2 maps across.

If your so bloody good and know there is threads on it why the hell don't you put a link up.

And to the original poster, the guy above pretty much sumed it up. You will find most of the better one's will install themselves.

there's always one smartass in the forums that has to say use the search button. do we really need people to tell us use the search button.

So then it's all ready in the game? I just find a server using that map and way I go?

Thats sound a little complicated, I looked around the BF2 files and found the "Mod", i clicked on that and go to a file called "bf2" then click on that and get "cache" then click on that and find six files starting with the name "{D7b771ee2...."

Is this the palce I shoud put them?

For self-installing maps/mods, yes just run the self-installer then all you needs is to find servers running that particular map/mod. The TotalBF2 map pack is a perfect example of a self-installer.

The 'cache' folder is in 'My Documents', you want 'Program Files'.

If you click Start -> Run and enter:

                  C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels

                  OR

                  C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\

It would open the folder(s) you require. :)
