Hehe...I love screwing with jet pilots

They should just leave me alone and go back to bombing flags

Flying without a gunner, or acting like you don't have one when you do is such a waste.

Rockets should be secondary to the TV. I always give my gunner at least one shot, and if they miss - its rocket time.

My biggest pet peave with gunners is when they shoot at any and everything with the gun - before we even get a chance to surprise them. I cannot tell you how many times I have had perfect shots ready for them to fire the TV missle, and they just start gunning an AA or another chopper, etc - that has NO CLUE we are there.

I hate seeing an attack chopper go into a perfect hover as a target, and when I expect my gunner to stop drooling and fire the TV, they fire with the gun. Before I can ruin the chopper with my rockets they are moving out of the way from the warning, and now we are in a dogfight and I know I have an idiot for a gunner - so it is 2 on 1...with me being the 1. Not always a loss - just saying it sucks not having a competant gunner.

          IMHO

Good pilot to co-pilot tactic would be if the pilot could pre-arrange with the gunner that if they spotted a potential "armoured" target the pilot would letoff a rocket or two in its direction, cue the gunner to enter tv and boom.

1- VOIP/TS is vital for a good chopper crew, s'all about communication.
2- Fly as one crew, dont fly as the pilot or "for" the gunner. Your a 2 man team in a killing machine!!!!.
3- A chopper crew is primarily there to keep armour / other helis at bay. The fact that it devastates infantry is a bonus but should be left to the groundpounding side of a squad.

A ground squad backed up with an attack chopper crew cleans up BIGTIME.

Sorry cant offer any advice for dogfighting another chopper, the info on here sounds well decent tho. However i cant imagin useing the TV during a dogfight, why bother unless youve got the upper hand of suprise and position??
I think its best to keep the chopper moving and the gun pounding with missiles screaming off, pausing to line up TV only gives your opponent the advantage of a slow(er) moving target.

Not only have you wasted a couple missles, but by the time the gunner enters TV and then is able to fire - would be way too late.

            agreed - above problem gone

I never said you had to pause to do this. When I have my gunner on voice, I tell them to get on tv and be ready - sometimes even giving them a countdown or at least a second warning as to when they are going to see their target. Even warning them - going to see them coming in from the right - be ready in 2, 1, NOW. During this time - I never paused or came to a hover - I was just coming up from behind a building and continue my pass in case he missed, my full load of 14 rockets are ready for that target.

Nothing is as effective as voice communication for this....NOTHING.

I also agree that voice communication is KEY to having a good attack helo team.

My co-pilot and I are always on GameVoice. I let him know what flag we're attacking, where and what our target is...

I have a 4.5 ratio in a chopper, and all I do is pilot the attack choppers.. not blackhawks. I am also a mouse and keyboard flier, and will own any joystick pilot I come up against. Not bragging, just know that my tip is for non-joystick pilots.

First off, USE YOUR ARROW KEYS CORRECTLY. Go in an empty server and fly around, focus on making fast turns. Use your mouse in conjuction with your rudders until you know you can make fast turns. Sometimes this requires hitting an arrow key that would take you the opposite direction of where you want to go, but it will swing you around. Basically, keyboard flying is just a matter of getting the feel for the physics of the chopper and learning to turn. After that, you have many advantages over joystick pilots, as you can more accurately line your gunner up as you have precise control over your movements.

Don't take this as me knocking joystick pilots, just trying to show people how to match them.

Good thing, cause I can say the same for K/M pilots.

                    Re: Advance Helicopter piloting

I don't fly but I am a gunner, a good one actually. I can hit anything from across the map, even if I can't see it. I've shot tv's all the way across the map and have nailed other choppers. Thin or fat, it's done. I've also taken out aa's from across the map. However, the gunner is only as good as the pilot. If the pilot cannot line me up or simpy cannot fly then I am pretty much useless. Also, the MEC chopper is the best. It can destroy ground troops and is very powerful, but you only get 500 or so rounds as opposed to the USMC chopper which has 900 rounds I think. But USMC and Chinese choppers have very weak mini guns.

                      Re: Advance Helicopter piloting

Having a gunner on all choppers makes a huge difference. Only reason to not have a gunner is if you are a stat whore. They can see 180 degrees. If you have them on voice they can spot stuff you cant see. They are constantly on the look out for stuff to shoot, a pilot has other things to worry about.

They can shoot infantry you can't without stoping. You can cap flags twice as fast if you are sure its safe.

TWO PAIRS of eyes make a huge difference.

                      Dog fighting advantage.

Scare factor. Any chopper I see that has their cannon blazing scares me as a good gunner has a high chance to insta-kill you whatever vehicle you are in.

Spotting? I think you can spot in a chopper. Perfect vantage point to spot from.

If you need to repair or rearm your chopper the gunner could be either of these making the job faster if you land in a safe place.

The list goes on and on and on. I see no disadvantage to having a co-pilot unless you are just a selfish chopper stat whore that doesn't want your co-pilot dieing with you and spawning and getting in the chopper before you. (yeh I'm talking about you greedy players that never let anyone else in the chopper because you think you are just totally awesome).

I recommend playing with a friend and I recommend ALWAYS considering your gunner first and the pilot second. As this will make the gunner WANT to play as the gunner. The few times I have found a good pilot that considers the gunner I was happy to let him fly even though his skills were not as good as mine.

So that's my long way of saying you are the worst kind of chopper pilot.

                          Re: Advance Helicopter piloting

Okay. I'm wondering how keyboard & mouse pilots have their controls configured. I've been practicing flying the helicopter since the game came out but I learned with just the keyboard (maybe that's old school?). My WASD keys control the throttle and yaw; my arrows keys control the pitch and roll. I feel like I've plateau'd in terms of my improvement and I'm not nearly as good as I could be. Mostly using the arrows is a hinderance when it comes to aiming, I find I'm always readjusting my crosshairs.

Should I be learning to fly helicopters with the mouse as well? Seems it would be an advantage. If so what should the mouse control. Mouse forward/backwards = pitch obviously, what about mouse left/right = yaw (or roll?).

Any advice from keyboard/mouse pilots would be welcome.
                          Thanks.

im always happy to fly (im alright i suppose) but i prefer to gun. ive seen talus and hes a good guy in the air though ive never flown with him. I love the attack choppers and the tv missile is my favourite weapon in the whole game - i love shooting blackhawks from the dam helipad when they dont even expect it. I still need a lot of practice shooting the cobras, though i can hit them sometimes. I hate it when im pilot and a gunner just shoots the cannon at tanks and doesnt even know how to use the missile even when i line him up...

Daleus (a good friend of mine) and I always play together so he's always my gunner when we're both on.

We don't wh0re it though...if somebody else is waiting at the helipad when we re-spawn, we gladly relinquish.

But nothing gives me more pleasure than when Daleus strikes a direct hit with the TV missle on your APC (oh..and that -fart-HomeLess guy too)
