Weird White Dots

Specs(dont laugh, i run everthing high and get 35fps)
AMD ATHLON 3200+ 2.0Ghz
ATI 9600 256mb
1Gb Pc 2700Ram
Catalyst 5.8(just got 5.9 but havent tried yet, other stuff i gotta do)

ok so theres this problem where i get little specs under like peoples feet, and distance, well basically any thing that moves... sorry but its hard to explain...
any one else gettin this?

and a little off topic, but my .mpg's wont work its like runnin 1 second of video in like 2 two seconds, basically if the movie was 30fps it is playing at 15fps, you kno what i mean? so the video is really messed up any fixes couldnt find it anywhere....

I get the a VERY small white line underthings at the far end of my drawdistance, but other then that i love my X700. sorry i cant help you...

I get some stuff like that too. I too have an ATI card. Wait for new drivers to fix it but dont hold your breath.

ATI's driver philosophy goes something like this... "Fix graphical bugs in one game, introduce more in another"

Well Pancakes, if you're so good, write your own drivers! Atleast ATI aggressively persues driver fixes, and doesn't wait 4-5 months like Nvidia.

All I can say is make sure you PROPERLY install your drivers. Refer to the sticky at the top of the Hadware Forum (subforum of Client Support) on how to do this.

actually i dont think i have that problem anymore, now i have this problem where i get 8fps when i look between the smokestacks on that one nuclear plant map... ill post a screenie soon...

um... both Nvidia and ATI both release drivers monthly...

here is the pic, but fraps is being stupid and says that there is a function to show frame rate over lay, but there is no button to enable it... buti n this pic i am running at 8fps for some reason... any one have this problem in 5.9?

I have an agp AIW x800 xt & I also get the little random white dots. If I remember correctly, it's texture shimmering.

The dots are "graphic anomalies" due to heat + over stress of your graphics card.

Most that know will tell you this can be replicated when overclocking graphics cards and under benchmark testing with a program like 3DMark.

The next phase will be "screen tearing" where you get, black, weird lines and triangles the next step is screen lockup with multicoloured random squares
the final stage is "mort" card "burn up" a permanently dead card.

3 ways of solving this .............

1) introduces more cooling directly to vid card if using a stock fan get an upgrade like Zalman or Arctic Cooling http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=667

2) if graphics card overclocked return settings to "default" or reduce below default and test.

3) a temporary fix reduce your game time when it starts go back to desktop or turn your pc off let it cool and restart. But the time will reduce until you address the 1 + 2 above.

Also temp fix take out your vid card, take off your fan, clean the heat paste off the fan plate and the GPU heat plate, apply new paste replace all,
NB.. only do this if you know what you are doing if not read up, the process is not hard.

It is heat related due to stress of the demanding program, a stock fan becoming overworked and all of the vid card maxing out to give you the results that it is set to work at.
