BF Custom Map Auto Downloader

Here's a needed utility that will allow people connecting to a custom map server to DL it from the server or a dedicated web site and auto install it.

It currently works using ASE and windows servers, but he is going to get a Linux version for it as well, and hopefully be able to use other server browsing utilities other than ASE. It does not work using the ingame server browser. :hmm:

yeah, its a very useful tool. Most people here should be aware of this though as it was on the front page news

Of course this is nice, but tbh doesn´t make much sense this way since most Game Servers on this Planet run on LINUX because its the System No. 1 for Servers.

So, since EA don´t intends to integrate something like Autodownload in their Game, like almost any other Game does by now, I don´t think that things like this Autodownloader, since its only for Windows Servers, bring much.

Its nice, don´t get me wrong. But for many things like Mods for example, if you don´t come up with a Release for LINUX, its kind of senseless.

sounds interesting. But won't be very useful. Custom maps can't be used on ranked servers.

Sure there will be some people use it, but most don't care about anything but ranked servers.

Could come in very handy in the future for mods like desert conflict, POE etc..if the mod did'nt use any ranking system then it would'nt matter about EA's preference. In that circumstance it would be a good way to recieve new maps for your fav mod.

This will pass, we´re atm in the beginning of the BF2 - Era. So, just because Servers are not ranked doesn´t mean, they will not be played. And with that amount of Maps already, and considering upcoming Maps in the future, a function like this will be necessary.

But like I said, almost no Game Servers, counted in total, use f......g Windumb as Server OS. LINUX is the game, and so it makes no sense coming up only with a Software like this, if they don´t also work a LINUX Version of this.

Right, its a handy feature, but normally a Game these days should have this in itself, no only with a extra Tool someone has to make afterwards to offer that feature.

In Game Server Area´s, doing something only for Windumb, is useless.

P.S.: And in some time a lot of people don´t want to see only the same 10 Maps over and over again. The time for Custom Maps just begins, and in the beginning its slow, but thats the same in any game.

you will get autodownloader for linux. I'll find a sollution.

Remember that this has only been out for 3 days and is beta 0.1, future releases should be able to run on linux (good possibility) and also may even be usable in the in-game browser (long shot but good to be optimistic)

Yeah, you´re right, its earlie to say if there will or won´t be a LINUX Version too. But considering that some Mods still are also not for LINUX, like JET POWERED for example, what would be awesome if it could be used for any BF2 Server, is also just for Windows.

I am just saying, working a solution like the Auto Downloader should have priority to first come out on LINUX, and then on Windumb. And its awesome that someone is even doing a thing like this tool, because EA is too n00b to integrate something like this in the game already, like it should be in actual games.

Even older games have it. HL2 for sure has the best way of this tool. And there sure are enough HL2 or CSS Maps so far, so why is EA writing that this would make no sense, given the possibility, that there will be a lot more BF2 Maps in time. So are in other games, especially then we need something like this.

Just wanted to say the website says the new version works with linux

New version released!
The newest version is now 0.2.
New key-features:
* Works on linux-servers, the server doesn't need any extra program. Fileserver-information is configured in the normal BF2-server-config.
* Displays the time remaining for all files togheter, not only one file at a time like before.
* Displays serverinformation and serverlogo while you are downloading.
* Ability to shut down the program automaticly when the download is finished.

The new version is not compatible with the old server, if you have a server running BFDL you will have to reconfigure it to work with the new version!

awesome!!!!! Can anyone get this woking right? I wana play some new maps but dont wana download evry SINGLE map!!
