I know you might not want to, but I'd really suggest upgrading your motherboard to one that supports AGP. You will get better preformance out of it by far then you would a PCI one.

edit:removed link as newegg had a better deal.

No, don't buy an AGP board. AGP is on it's way out, if you are going to upgrade your motherboard get a PCI-E.

Don't worry about getting a 256MB card. Anything that old really isn't fast enough to take advantage of it. It's just a marketing gimmick on cards that old.

Yea, I'd definently look into buying a PCI-E board. PCI is way to old for cards. It would cost around 250-300 for a PCI-E board and a 6600gt. Although I hate the 6600gt line with a passion I would get it in your situation.:)

Re: Choosing vid card for pci

if u want just a medium rated slot type AGP is the one to go with. sure PCI-E is great technology but not all technology has caught up with it yet. and AGP slot type cards are about 100 dollars cheaper if u want a good one.

PCI cards are no good now a days, atleast use a AGP 8x slot or PCI Express 16x which is the lastest slot to use

If your looking for cheap, AGP would be cheapest to go with for preformance that is pleasent. I don't run full settings but I am happy with my frame rate on multiplayer.

Now if your looking for cutting edge state of the art, PCI-E would be the way to go. I would avoid the AMD socket 754 as it sees no upgrades and will proably die out.

I have the 6600gt oc, PCI-e and it runs the game great.
