    Help

    Hi,

Wondering if I can get some advice regarding a few things. As you may well have guesed I do not have the knowledge required to help myself on a lot of things but am trying to learn!!

The first thing is memory. I currently have 1gb of memory which is made up 2* 256mb ddr3200 400mhz and 1*512mb ddr3200 400Mhz. I have one spare slot. Is the best way to upgrade just to stick in a 1gb stick in my empty slot? I have heard some mention before of having to install the sticks in pairs to take advantage of something. Is this true and what would I take advantage of if I do this??

The next things is monitors. I am correct in saying that my TFT LCD monitor is pretty standard as it will only refresh at a maximum of 75Hz and even then it is a bit blurry, its optimum settings are 1280*1024*60HZ and the game runs well on this setting. Someone told me that I want about 100Hz but I am not sure if they were referring to a CRT monitor or not as from what I read LCD monitors dont have to refresh as quickly, is this correct? and am I better to use a CRT monitor for games?

Next problem I have is with my joystick. It is plugged in to the USB port but I can see no option under the control menu to use it??

I read about how many fps people are getting. How do I find out mine??

Last but not least I have heard some talk of page file size, what does this mean and can I change some settings to make my pc run the game a bit better?

Sorry for all the questions but am just keen to learn. I am sure I can give something back one day!!:)

      Re: Help

      A. If you want 2 gigs I highly suggest getting a Corsair ValueSelect kit either 2-512x2 kits or 1 2x1gig kits. The advantage people speak of is having a matched pair that will run in dual channel mode. If your mobo supports it then you'll get Dual Channel with my suggestions.

      B. LCD's are measured in ms response times. CRT's are measured in Hz.
A good LCD is under 12ms and a CRT would be 100Hz. Run your ingame settings at 1280x968@60 for the specs you gave.

      C. No idea off hand, I don't use joysticks...Sorry.

      D. For fps when you're in a game press the ~ key. It's above tab on most keyboards. This will bring up a white screen then type renderer.drawfps 1 no spaces except for the 1. This will give you your fps in red letters in the top left corner of the screen....the fps rate is the first number.

      E. If you use 2 gigs I wouldn't worry about the Pagefile.
