Why the heck can't I shoot straight?!?

Yes, you are right, I am not an awesome BF2 player---average at best. But it sure is fun...

Anyway, I have been paying for about a month now and cannot seem to win many close encounters with enemies (soldiers, not vehicles). They seem to kill me much faster than I kill them (probably 80% of the time). I've got a decent system (P4 3.0, 1.5G memory, 9800PRO 128), great mouse, and a fairly steady hand. So I can't blame graphics, controls, or shakiness. I love to play but have only played two "video games" in the last 5-10 yrs (BF2 and Doom 3). Maybe more time/experience???

Any tips??? I know to go for a headshot but it hasn't helped much. BTW -- I typically use the Assualt kit. And how the heck does one best aim the grenade launcher.

Tips would be appreicated. And after reading some posts, I sure I will get insulted at least a couple of times about my lack of BF2 skill. No problem, I play for fun and not out of necessity.

That might be your first mistake for aiming for the head. Its easier to put 3 or 4 shots into somebody's bulky mid section then hitting the head. Many lits don't have body armor, so I would advise aiming lower, like the legs or belly. Maybe even crouch. Standing up or moving while shooting lowers your accuracy. I use PKM, so I always prone when I shoot, unless its close up. I aim low & let the recoil go up the body. I NEVER aim for the head! Being a sniper.... then I probably would. You need to create your own server in multiplayer with the assault class, Then apply for commander. Just practice shooting the launcher at a stationary target from different distances. Hit Caps Lock for commander mode & drop a supply crate to keep rearming yourself.

BF2 doesn't even shoot straight, it's just the accuracy in the game is beyond pathetic. Try spraying and praying..

Yep, instead of recoil making the gun shoot off target, EA made deviation, so you don't see the crosshairs jump around lik they should. And in their terms of recoil, they mean the crosshair spreading out, it's really messed up, in real life, only recoil, no deviation, recoil makes bulets off target, not some crazy programing that sets the bullet to be 1 foot away from the target magically.

Actually as i have recently found you can shoot people quite some distance away with the pkm in the head with a single shot remarkable really.

And you can shgoot reliably standing but only single shot so it is best to go prone.
