Screen refresh rate

Hi,

I am having a bit of trouble in setting up my video card with my monitor.

Basically my monitor tells me that its optimum setting is 1280*1024*60Hz, now this does not appear as an option in the BF2 video menu. I was using 1024*768*60Hz and runs ok but does seem to hurt my eyes after a bit, so I changed to 1024*768*75Hz, but the picture is much more blurry and in my opinion not nearly as good quality, would this be right?? Does this mean that my monitor is not up to scratch, as it was mentioned in another post that Is should aim for 85 to 100 Hz?

I have a flat panel 17inch that I got with my pc but is only VGA and not digital, is this a problem??

Is it an LCD or a CRT monitor?

Lcd, although I do have a CRT lying about if that would be better

I bet this helps:

...one of the most commonly requested commands is to run BF2 in 1280x1024 resolution (or another custom resolution) - particularly for LCD displays which display the best image at their native resolution. To do this, change your command line to look like this:

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Note the addition of the +szx and +szy commands which respectively set the width and height of the resolution to be used. Substitute other values for other resolutions (e.g. +szx 1900 +szy 1200).

You can do this at the main Battlefield 2 shortcut you use to launch the game, right-click on it and select Properties. The line you edit will be in the Target Box. This should return your image quality to all it's glory. :nod:

That worked fine, the monitor now tells me while I am running the game that the resolution is 1280*1024*60Hz, which is the monitors optimum resolution :)

Do you know if the video setting panel in the game will still work now, as it is still showing 1024*768*60Hz even though the game is not running at that. If I change the settings to med or high etc will it still work on the game, do you know?

Sorry for all the questions, I am a bit new to all this and am ust trying to build up my knowledge. Maybe one day I can contribute something to help others :laugh: !!

It's not problem at all. This is what community message boards are for. :)

You will be able to adjust your remaining game settings without disrupting the resolution. The reason it works is because you started the game via the command line which executed the way you told it to before the remainder of the settings are loaded.

allright i tried the same thing but mine did not work. My max monitor resolution is 1280x1024 at 60hz. It gives me a The folder in the start box is not valid. Make sure the folder exists and the path is correct. also i got a CRT monitor.

I don't know why one would need to use a command line switch with a CRT monitor. I use and prefer CRT for gaming.

Ideally, you want the highest native refresh rate for your monitor at the desired resolution. I am not sure what you are wanting to do because this workaround is used mostly by those with LCD displays. Are you wanting to use a custom resolution or something?

Otherwise, I would double and tripple check that you entered everything exactly as indicated or it will not accept.

No, when i go into my resolution settings the 1280x1024 doesent show up, thats wot i mean, also i have a CRT, i also perfer it for gamin. I have copied and pasted the target from the tweakguides site, still no go. !!! Also i am trying to do this on the demo.

The resolution setting of 1280x1024 will not show up in the Video Options Menu. Instead, the game will simply be loaded at that resolution. Other than the file paths, this should work the same on the demo as the retail version.

If all else fails, I would assume that you are trying to force a resolution and refresh rate that is not supported by either your CRT or your Video card.

I just checked everst and it said my max resolution was 1280x1024 60hz. SO ur saying that wen i put the file path in it will give me an error, but the resoultion will come up ne way? confused. oh my pc specs:

amd 64 3000 venice
dfi lanparty sli dr
radeon x800 256mb 256 bit gddr3 pci express
fortron 500 watt PSU
ocz 1gb enhanced latency 2-3-3-8.

No, if you are getting an error, it is not setting it to that resolution after all. I was confused.

It's not applied to the file path, however, it must be applied as a switch to the command line at the shortcut.
