The problem with all missiles is that they loose their lock-on. If they did stay after their targets they certainly would be more effective. Speed and manouverability of missiles is about right, but I certainly hope that this lock-on issue is getting better.
Even though I agree with this...

I was playing Gulf of Oman. I was MEC and did a fly by bombing run of the carrier...the Essex gunner of course tried shooting me down and had missile lock. I was flying back to base to reload and had missile lock the whole time. I thought it was a USA jet behind me...I kept looking back...looking back...looking back. I didn't see a thing. I banked to the right to parallel the runway to reload and... *blam* missile hit and took me out. (I was already partially damaged).

The missile was from the Essex...followed me all the way back to my base. Never saw this before...definitely the "little missile that could".

      Re: Stinger/IGLA AA tips.

I have taken many a BH down with AA, my way is to get lock asap, wait about 2 seconds if no flare fire one missile, that normaly provokes the BH pilot in to releasing the flares, then I fire the second missile, by the time I have reloaded (keeping lock on all the time) the pilot releases a second lot of flares then I let both missiles go, most of the time (if the missiles hit), down goes the BH.

Also another tactic is to have a FAV up next to the AA station with someone in, if the pilot evades some of the missiles but is still damaged the FAV gunner makes easy meat of the already damaged BH.

Most kills on songhua stalemate I have gotten with the AA is 36 all BH kills in one round. :)

Your example might be a lucky shot I guess... Eventually you are gonna get hit by missiles, no matter whatever you do. There are so many stray missiles in the air at the same time...

I sure hope so that lock-on gets better, It helps me also. And there will be less people willing to fly when they get shot down by AA. This means more chances to fly.
