    Memory Question

Hi, i was wondering, Ive heard alot of talk about memory requirements for BF2. i was wondering if i should go with 2gb or 1gb in my system. i curently have 1gb but have heard rumors that it is suggested u have 2gb. I was mostly wanting to know what u guys have in relation to ur video settings(i.e max settings 1gb, medium settings 2gb, etc..)

    go on with the chlorophyl

What does the rest of your system have? Have you tried the demo to see how well it runs? Basically if you have the hardware to fun High settings you'll need 2 gbs of ram to handle the textures. Otherwise while it may have a decent framerate you'll get stutter and hitched when the game has to grab new textures via the swap file (also called virtual memory). hope that helps

      P4 3.4Ghz
      2GB DDR2-533
      SB! Audigy2 ZS Sound Card
      ATI X850XT PE Video Card
      (2)74GB Raptors 10k RPM [RAID-0]
      Abit AA8-DuraMAX motherboard
      XP Pro SP2

Ingame - All maxed settings, 6xAA. 60-70FPS on average, dips to upper 40s at intense action.

I used to have 1GB but recently upgraded to 2GB. I would honestly stick with 1GB for now, as the v1.03 patch may optimize the game enough where 1GB will run it on high with good FPS, but as of now 2GB for an all maxed setting is what I would recommend. I could play with 1GB, but my FPS is much better with 2GB.

If you can, get the 2GB it will mean you can play on all high, as long as the rest of your system can handle it, it will help reduce loading times and just general performance ingame. Im planning on getting another stick of RAM, just so it does not stagger when i get in heaavy firefights and when arty is raining down.

Won't more RAM increase validating time?

              Re: Memory Question

Depeds on whether it causes the pc to start using the RAM as Dual chanel, this would far outweigh the downfalls of the validatng time.

                Re: Memory Question

I use mine on dual channel, maps load in 30seconds or so, but validating takes AGES.

                  Re: Memory Question

Validation is tied into three different processes.
                  1. I/O speed (how fast your hard drive will transfer data)
                  2. The amount data held in RAM as opposed to the slower HD
                  3. Your internet Upload speed to the Auth. Server.

2GB systems tend to validate faster because they hold more data in RAM. However, not all game files are held in RAM so the other processes will always factor into validation times.

                    Re: Memory Question

2 gigs here and validating only take 15 sec.

I've got 1gb, i'm on max- looks great, plays great, no lag, no slow down, no chopyness.. Apart from about 1 second at the start of the round, just spin round and its perfect for the rest of the game.
