    user guide / manual

    Okay-
I wil admit I am a 'noob' when it comes to this game, but please- am I alone in thinking that the game manual is lacking?
Maybe it's just me but I am having trouble sortng out all of the mini-map stuff.
I think tonight I finally figured out that the 'orange dagger' is where I have been ordered to attack. ( that is it, isn't it? )
Crap, there are about a dozen different icons, and so far I have been able to tell what about half of them mean!
For example- I have been playing as medic lately, our guys get wounded, and they request medics. I can hear them but I can't tell where they are!!!!!
And how about the icon for spawning on you squad leader, sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. Why? ( presumably because he's dead )
I can probably just go buy a Prima guide ( and probably will- because this game is such a blast ), but I just think the included manual should be more detailed.
    Out.

Yes it sucks. Don't buy a prima guide. You've got all the wealth of knowledge you need on this site and in this forum. Tips and tricks section should be handy for you.

Oh and when your a medic the little red lightning type symbols on your mini-map is the location of a dead body. They also appear just above the body's on your main screen as well. The players health bar will only show up when they need healing, so pull your med pack out and throw one at them(or stand there next to them with it).

You were correct with the SL spawn point. It will also be there but crossed out when he is in a full vehicle, etc and alive but can't spawn on him.

ok first thing about mini map...if ur playing as a ground trooper like ur not in a plane or anything, hit the N button like twice to zoom in the map..this will help u navigate easier to the fallen soldiers. ok blue dots are ur teammates red dots that usually are blinking are the enemy..and there will be tiny icons that look like trucks or tanks or planes and blue = friendly... red = enemy....and the vehicles that are not colored like are gray means that no one is in the truck..a bluecircle with a yellow star means that the person is ur commander .if u see a yellow line sortof turning around a point like a radar, then it is a UAV and it means ur commander has dropped a uav to spot enemy troops..this is usualyl the only way u can spot red dots on ur radar unless someone else "spots" them with the enemy spotted command.

ppl who are critically wounded will show up on the minimap as a lil lighning bolt on a big red circle...and im not 100% sure but ppl who show up with a red cross over white circle means they need a medic if u are a medic and if ur not and u call for a medic...the red cross voer white circle should pop up

also...commander comand points are ...dagger = attack...purple shield = defend ... yellow arrow = move...and i forget the rest..but those are the least used so dont worry about it.repaid is a big wrench and demolitions is ..i forget..but u wont need it because most of the time im not a spec ops or enginner..u should hear what the cmmander says anyways..

You're probably right, I guess it's going to be 'live and learn' ( or in my case ' die and learn'!!! )

            When commander:
            - Press CAPS-LOCK to get to your control map
            - Click on squad and assign a task for them by right-clicking on the map and selecting the appropriate task (attack, defend, repair, demolish, etc)
            - Right-click on the map to zoom in and out; you can also right-click to "spot" and enemy, lay UAV/supplies/art. strikes

Play as commander on single player, and you will get used to the symbols.

Yout mini-map is your best friend in this game. I set mine to rotate in the direction I am going (in your game settings)

If you are a medic or engineer, you will see who needs you if they are badly wounded or need repairs (shows up as a little meter)

You can tell if an enemy is wounded...when he/she is spotted on your minimap, a little orange/red circle appears around the "red dot" which is the enemy

Another good thing to play with, test in single-player, is to become a squad leader (CAPS-LOCK again) and create one and invite people (CAPS-LOCK + Manage Squad) to join you. If you hold your "squad key; (default is T) there are options you can have your squad mates see on their minimap, and general viewing area. If you want them to attack a bench, for example, hold T, point at the bench, and select attack. They will then know to attack the bench...

When you're approaching an area and you want UAV support, do the same thing and request UAV support, and wait for the commander to accept (also done in CAPS+LOCK; commander can right-click where the person wants the request action and choose to accept or deny)

I hope that helps a little. Your best bet is to practice single player, I played almost 5-6hrs of single-player before I brought it online. the last thing I need is for some moron to call me a noob, when I'm just learning the game.

            PEACE

if u r new to the game...dont be commander...it isnt as fun and ppl usually dont listen to u ..unless ur on a good server..and if u r..u prob wont get to be commander cuz someone else better will usualyl take the position...commander's postition can actaully seem a bit fast paced and pressured..but just get use to the game first

                Cool.

                Thanks.

Guess I'll try more singleplayer until I get the hang of it.

                  Re: user guide / manual

I recommend getting the Prima guide. It answered a lot of my questions and is a handy source for the newbie. I only reference it occasionally now, but it was well worth it when I first started playing.
