    Landscape goes black, transparent

Pardon me if this issue has been addressed here already (I've seen it mentioned on another forum, but can't find it here), I'm a BF2 newbie playing online and single player. Several times in multiplayer I've brought up the close-up screen for the USMC Special Forces rifle gunsight only to see a big, black square. Sometimes the square will go away, but then sections of the landscape will go completely black, flashing on and off, sometimes revealing scenery otherwise hidden by the foreground. Sometimes the screen will freeze for several (long) seconds.

I've also encountered this problem when looking through the Stinger and Phlanax AA gunsights.

Sometimes Escaping to the main game menu and returning will fix it, sometimes not.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Wow! Another GB of RAM is the solution? When will it ever stop?!

I have another issue I've seen reported here: My rifle sound disappears sometimes, leaving only the tinkling of shell casings when I fire. :hmm:

it's a video card drivers error

          either rollback or update

I don't think it's just a driver issue. I currently have the latest drivers installed for my 256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PE (Catalyst 5.9 drivers for Windows XP), plus I've played BF2 1.02 with two other driver versions as well, and in each case I've experienced some instance of the black/transparent landscape. Fortunately the glitch is usually transitory and clears up after a few minutes. It nearly always occurs in one of the Chinese maps--Dragon Valley and/or Daqing Oilfields, maybe.

your saying that its "not true" that i got 2 GB of ram and my problem went away?....how would you know.....with all details on hight and high resolution bf2 uses more than a GB of ram.....so thats why it solved it for me as i was running out of memory.....i know this has solved it for others too.

                  Wrong.

Sounds like a graphics card starting to overheat. Take the side off your case.
