wtf i dont bother with the clicking nonsense. just line up the shot (with whatever lead u feel necessary) then click, after the just freely move your mouse to update the target posistion no need to constanty click, trust me (try it) i got 23kills with i yesterday just in the first 5mins of dragon valley(re-arming), just lead, click, and then freely move the mouse to the target, lol. smoothly does it. btw great thread!!! the calibration thing is news to me!!

Think about it this way - when you click - you just disignated a target, the missle will fly to what you pointed to.

When it is in mid flight - and you click again - you just gave it a new target, you are not actively steering it, unless you can click hella fast.

If you think you fire the missle and steer with your mouse - please share with all of us what you are smoking - it must be some damn good stuff.

Practice - IN SINGLE PLAYER, or on an unranked server please.

If you feel you have a good grasp on the hellfire and want a good pilot to test your skills with - look me up on xfire (beerknut) and I will fly you around the way a gunner should be flown.

Wherever you click on the TV screen you'll be able to see a little cross appearing that designates the target. So wherever on the screen you clicked last is where the cross will show, and thus is where your TV-Guided missile will go.
After clicking somewhere, the screen will center the newly designated target, and you'll see the direction change of the rocket.

It takes some time practicing but every good chopper pilot will kiss your butt for mastering the TV-Missiles.

You guys do know you can guide the 2nd seat plane missles, the grount at missles, and the missles on the apcs right? Doesn't take clicking though just steer it with your reticule.

I knew about the clicking nonsense before the game came out. :p

Yes - different topic. Unfortunately most people think the TV missle is the same as the rest in the game - which it is not - which = suckass gunners.

Ok, for the "calibration" issue:

You are shooting the machine gun, kill, kill, kill.

Then, while looking left, you switch to TV camera. The server now registers that your gun is pointed straight ahead.

You shoot, and come out of TV mode, and the physical gun is still pointing left (from before you went into TV mode), and your view is to the left, but now the server thinks you are looking straight. (the bug) So, there could be a 1-30 degree delta between what the client looks at and where the server registers your hits.

So, you move the gun to straight-ahead, and if you shoot your machine gun, you see the bullets hitting straight ahead, but the server registers the hits off to your right now (without any visible indication).

To sync them back up, you move your mouse to all 4 corners, and then the server and client are '1' again, and you can go back to killing.

In the video that is out, the 'server' is registering the bullets as hitting the building behind the guys. What would be fun to see is a 3rd guy walk from far left to far right while the helo is shooting, and when he magically dies, that would be the offset of the gun to center when he came out of TV mode.

My friend was flying the BH and I TV guided a tank coming into the base, I then started firing on some infantry, however, I TKed an entire squad of 3 guys to the right of where I was aiming. . . I got kicked and was so confused.

But, I am not entirely sure what you mean by "the 4 corners." Do you mean the four corners of my screen?

ahh maybe it explain why even if i was posted on a roof top with my mi-28 and shotting everything i saw with the gunner i couldn't touch anyone! so all i need to do is point my mouse to the 4corners of my screen to recalibrate the server view into mine...if i understand.

Thats really handy to know i never realised that. I thought i was stering the missile by clicking but i guess all im really doing is giveing it updated targets quickly giving the illusion of steering it, im definatley gonna bear what you said in mind :)

start your own local server and practice shooting the missile. Just park the chopper on a big oil drum or a building. you can be commander and drop supplies too so you can reload

1. Heli pilots that dont give the gunner a good tv shot are probably just thinking that you dont know how to use the missile anyway, so why bother taking the time to line it up?

2. the calibration issue on the regular gun, i think this happened to me once, i came out of tv mode and there was a guy running around below, my pilot saw him and waited for me to take him out... i must have fired 500 rounds at him, and although i am not convinced that i am just a terrible shot, i doubt it because there were bullet impacts all over the guy and he just wouldnt die. i will try the calibrate gun thing next time

You move the mouse (while in the machine gun mode) to all 4 corners of the gun movement: top-left, top-right, bottom-right, bottom-left (in any order), fire!
