EA Games - Battlefield 2 patch information

    Posted: 20 Sep 2005 09:11
Post subject: Battlefield 2 patch information
As many of you know already there is a new patch currently in development for Battlefield 2 which will address a large number of gameplay issues, balancing and bugs which have been reported through this forum and other sources.

Naturally there is a great deal of speculation about what the patch will contain and there have been several posts from users claiming to have insider knowledge into the final makeup of the patch.

While we understand the need and demand for further information, at this time there is nothing further to add except to say that patch development is progressing and so far is on schedule.

When we have definite, finalised fix lists or a release date for the patch we will update this thread immediately, however until that time there is nothing further to be added.

I would also reiterate the point that until you see information regarding the patch on an official EA site, such as this forum or the US site, posted by an EA employee take any information you receive with a pinch of salt.

Apologies for the frustration at the wait, however it is vital that the patch be delivered in the best possible condition, improving the game from where it is now and solving many of the issues and complaints which have been received so far. Similarly, speculative information from us at this point will undoubtedly lead to disappointment as the makeup of the final, release, patch will not be set in stone until it enters the final testing phase.

That's the same thing I've been saying all along, but everyone seems to "know" whats going to be in the patch. Dumbasses.

I think by definition, to tell if a task is on schedule, EA would have to compare the work that is left to be done with the amount of time they have remaining to complete the work. To know the amount of time EA has left, they need to have a release date. Without a release date, EA should not say they are "on schedule", but rather, they are "working at their own pace"...

That's a bloody lie and nothing but a crock of propoganda. If the patch were on "schedule", it would have already been out and they would have been working on the next one. It's already late, how can they say it's on schedule?

They are begining to take the wee wee. I am sorry, this game is great, but could be soo much better! Soo much better. It is a great shame, and to string us along while not giving us any indication as to what they're including in the patch (160 fixes, could be any old bugs that don't really affect gameplay at all), or even a speculative realease date (sometime late October) is just poor.

It a good job that EA are dealing mainly with children, if they had sold software that was bugged as much as BF2 to a corporate company they'd be under much more pressure to sort their sht out.

Yeah, the common public who really have better things to do or don't have the time to complain properly (in writing maybe) to EA. Anyway, it is just a game, but like I said I'm a fan of the game, I think we all want to see it improved but untill it is frustration is being shown throughout the community.

What I would like it for EA and DICE to be tansparent about their inner workings. How many people are working on the patch? For the whole day, all week? What is the process the patch undertakes? Apart from calming the community I personally would find it interesting to learn about the work procedures the publisher and producer goes through.

EA has never had a concept of a schedule BF2 was supposed to be released in march but was pushed back to june and now this. plus i remember waiting months for some patch for BFV that had been announced but never came out when it was supposed to.

I really don't know why they don't release a series of updates to address the serious issues and then work on gameplay tweaks it's insane what they're doing with this game.

But we'll all keep playing it and complaining to deaf ears as usual

Chances are they are measuring against an INTERNAL completion date that they are trying to meet prior to any beta testing. After the internal completion, it goes for private beta testing, then perhaps public beta testing, and finally release.

They may not have a firm public release date, but it sounds that if they are "on schedule", the patch will make it to the testing teams duing the expected time period.

ah, who cares. the game is tons of fun, and when the patch gets here, it will be even more fun. it's a win-win situation for a BF2 gamer with a life (and real things to worry and/or complain about! ).

                        Seriously.

I'm 42 years old. Got a truck, a house, FT job. My GF is moving in with me this week. I got better things to freak over than a patch to Battlefield 2. I like the game and play it often but I swear people, repeat after me: : "It's just a game". :hmm:

They need someone like me working at EA, I would get it done and done right.
