    [RELEASE] Battlefield 2 Competition Mod

Battlefield 2 Competition Mod (BF2C) is a mod that increases the pace of the game by completely reworking the weapon system for Battlefield 2. The mod also goes beyond just that, BF2C also contains several other minor tweaks to the game play, in order to make it a more competitive friendly, skill based style of game. The game is much more intense, rewarding not only tactics and teamwork, but also skill and coordination.

This game is not a realism based mod. There are many of those kinds of mini-mods available elsewhere - and done very well. This is also not an attempt to make Battlefield 2 into a large scale Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, or Red Orchestra. Instead, it takes the best aspects of skill based competitive games and adds it to the rich Battlefield 2 tactical gameplay.

In short, give it a try. Yes, the download is big but thats because I had to change some things in the levels folders. Its no bigger extracted than other mini-mods. I am sorry about the thrown together website as well, that too will be updated in the future.

Advice: if you play single-player (and most of you will to test it out until I get my server up soon) play the bots on a high setting or it will feel like a Rambo mod.

    Thanks.

Really needs a server to make anything of the mod.

I like the idea of accurate weapons :) But does it have the cone of fire system when not using ironsights? Wouldn't like to be able to bunnyhop with crosshairs and shoot perfect headshots :/

yes it still has conefire in "hip" mode in addition to the recoil. SMGs will have better hip accuracy but high recoil and lower damage than the rifle counterparts, etc.

What bf2 desperatly needs is something to stop people from firing for 1-2 seconds after they hit the deck. Anyone who has played operation flashpoint will know just what i mean.

Also, make the accuracy really bad after crouching, jumping and moving. At the moment everything is a little to counter strikey.

Hell, if anyone will help me i'll head a realism mod.

the major disadvantage of a realism mod would be that unfortunately BF2 won't allow different recoil when prone and crouched

So you're saying theres no advantage in accuracy when lying down to standing up or crouching?

                    I beg to differ.

                      Recoil, not accuracy.

Cone of fire isn't the same thing as recoil...

Re: [RELEASE] Battlefield 2 Competition Mod

Exactly there no way to adjust recoil based on stance (that I have found). It sucks but its true.

This is as much of a changelog as I will give for the initial beta. Each subsequent release will have a changelog but not the initial release. The reason is simple, people look at the changes and make up thier mind to the game play without even trying it.

I have replaced conefire with recoil in iron sights mode. All of the weapons have been completely reworked so there is no point in a change log. All of the weapons have been tested many times in mutiplayer to find the best balance. accuracy in hip mode, overall recoil, and even damage in some cases have been adjusted for a better balance with the new system.

This mod isnt about realism, its about increasing the pace - making competitive play more exciting. If you are the type that hits the ground everytime you see an enemy this game may not be for you. Proning has the advantage of a smaller profile and hiding, thats all I want it to be for now. If you prone all the time, it slows the game, and looks stupid watching everyone Shamoo everytime someone is more than 5 feet away. In this game, pull up the sights and shoot them (Proning does help accuracy if you in "hip" mode but Iron sights doesnt make a difference). That may not be the type of game for everyone I know that. Bf2 to me (I love it dont get me wrong) seems too slow paced for competitive action and just encourages vehicle whoring. I have also slowed down the spawning times for vehicles. They are still powerful but you cant just rush in and expect to just jump in another one 5 seconds later. If the game feels "counter-strikey" then its because the pace of the game is faster and thats where the similarites end.

Now that being said there are things that if can be done I will,
                            - less recoil slightly when crouched.
                            - decrease "scope walking" speed
                            - change it so that you cant jump if your stamina is below a certain level (currently stamina doesnt affect your ability to jump).
                            - deploy heavy machine guns.

Unfortunately, I am the only person on this mod so it takes time working out how these things are done. Currently I cant find a way around them but I am looking in to them. I am hoping that atleast the 1.03 patch will fix the bunny hopping issue so I wont have to deal with working on coding something.

I hope to have the server up and running soon as well which will give you a better chance to feel what the game is really about.

                            Thanks for your feedback guys.
